Of course, it was boring, ChristineDaae--like the rest of the turgid, poorly-written show.

After seeing the song from Caroline, or Change I still have no interest in seeing it...I have a slight intrest in seeing Wonderful Town...but that's another story.

I watched the awards again today and saw Ms.Pinkins performance again. I had a Tony party with about twenty, so of course, there was lots of chatter. I haven't seen Caroline yet, but the other night the one thing I remember thinking about the number was "She must be great when she's well". My second viewing confirmed that. Her acting choices were dead on. I really want to see the show now.

I could've sworn I heard something about them recording an OBCR. I really hope they do. I love the score.

The cast album will be released as a two-CD set on June 29th.

As for George Wolfe's direction being boring, here's a partial list of some of the productions he's directed:

-- Caroline, or Change (Tony nom for Direction)
-- Harlem Song (at the Apollo)
-- Elaine Stritch At Liberty (Drama Desk nom for Direction)
-- Topdog/Underdog (Pulitzer; Obie for Best Direction)
-- The Wild Party
-- On The Town
-- The Ride Down Mt. Morgan
-- Bring in Da Noise (Tony Award for Best Direction)
-- The Tempest w/ Patrick Stewart
-- Angels In America: Millenium Approaches (Pulitzer; Tony Award for Best Direction)
-- Angels in America: Perestroika (Tony nom for Best Direction)
-- Blade To The Heat
-- Twilight: Los Angeles 1992
-- Jelly's Last Jam (Tony nom for Best Direction)
-- Spunk (Obie Award for Best Direction)

IMO, some of the best and most dynamic and exciting productions of the last 15 years -- for me Wolfe is as fine a director as anyone currently working in the American theatre.

That is true...but his work on Caroline or Change is...well, boring. But, given the material, what else could one expect?

No, it closed. You might as well stay home and ask people to go in the chat room with you.

It's been doing 80+% at the box office for weeks so it will be running for the next few months a least, barring some dramatic drop-off in business.

I think it all hinges on Jose''s postings about it. He's very very powerful, you know.

re: 'Caroline, or Change' at the Tonys

I saw Caroline or Change on Thursday night (prior to the Tony Awards on Sunday) and I was very disappointed. Overall, the show was good (I didn't think it would win) BUT the night I saw Tonia Pinkins whe was awful. She, basically, cracked notes on EVERY song she sang and I was sitting there wondering what the heck was WRONG! I expected to see a performance that would blow me away but I was not impressed. After Lot's Wife, I was REALLY disappointed. She messed it up completely (although her passion was good). So, when I saw her on the Tony's I wasn't surprised when she cracked notes and went flat because that was EXACTLY what I saw during the show (only worse because it happened every time she was on stage). Not impressed. At all.

I would've like to have seen Donna Murphy win because she was hystericl in Wonderful Town and had me laughing each time she was on stage. HOWEVER, I'm very happy for the Green Gal. ;0)

Isn't life great? I mean, it's always full of surprises.

I saw CAROLINE this afternoon and found some surprises in store for me. I'll mention three.

1. In the context of the whole show "Lot's Wife" is I beleive quietly powerful, stirring and affecting. It was very poorly representated at the TONYS, in my opinion. Out of context and missing the opening dialogue between Caroline and Dottie, the aria had little meaning.

2. George C. Wolf was robbed.

3. I liked it. I really liked it.

Let's also not forget that that song is the emotional turning point for her in the show, and to get to that point emotionally and come on and do that song is pretty difficult. On the Tonys preshow, she said that it was going be to difficult, and I think she did beautifully. I don't think anyone has the right to say she's bad....she's gotten great reviews, a Tony nomination for her performance, and has yet to miss a show.
