Hi,

I'm currently designing a production of Carrie and I had a logistical question/nightmare be raised to me. We really want to use stage blood. But the question was raised, will stage blood ruin the microphone? The pack itself will be in a protective casing but I didn't know if the actual mic part could be ruined. Thanks!

They do make water resistant microphones that are advertised as being able to be completely submerged in water without being damaged, but they're very expensive. You may be able to rent one.

An easy solution would be to just do what the recent revival did and use a red light and then, during a quick black out, have a double replace Carrie for the last part of the destruction scene while the real Carrie is backstage getting bloodied up for the final scene. It's not as cool, but it's a quick solution.

Have Carrie face upstage at some point during Alma Mater, maybe during the crowning. Have her slip a cover on the actual mic. Do the blood drop and have her put her hands on her face in shock before she starts singing, when she does that she'll take the mic cap off, and be ready to sing.

CATS thanks for the heads up about that mic!

Visceral - that is a good idea too!
