Was wondering if any more has been said about the possibilities of bringing Carrie the Musical back. I have not even heard or seen anything leaked from the workshop. If there is anything out there, which of course there isn't because that is not legal, could someone PM me?

I don't know if there is anything out there, but I would to get ahold of it too. They have put up "In" from the 2009 reading along with a new synopsis on the Carrie website though.

I hope Carrie isn't dead for good.... but those "In" harmonies are something fierce.

Woah! That revised "In" is tasty!
I hope we hear more from that reading!
-Jacob.
I refused to believe for a while that anything was leaked from the reading, you can imagine how happy I was the other day when I found that "In."
Hoping for more...

The 'IN' harmonies are incredible, i love when the song kicks back in as they go in to the shower as well.
I also love A night We'll Never Forget
I enjoyed listening to new "Carrie" so much though... it's still not going to work out, not without replacing Pitchford...

I agree with myshikobit-- but then again, Dan and I have talked about it at length...
And we are right now actually :P
I pray they move forward. As I've said, they have a great start, but yes, Pitchford needs to go. And put I'm Not Alone back in.
Hahaha, you just know that I have the more acute artistic taste ;p
I need more of this reading, I do, really. I think it could work, of course, I might want it to work so badly that I am not seeing that it can't.

I think the version they have now was far better and couild have moved forward on that version (revisions still need making)
Putting Im Not Alone back in is silly. The show screamed of disney when that song came on, i cringed at that as much as i did the choreography of Out For Blood.
The World According to Chris needs to be replaced (they should just rewrite Don't Waste The Moon).
I love how they bookend the show, In sounds great, Carrie and the mother scenes are wonderful (Act 1 finale is fantastic).
Act 2 opener is far better (the end of its great when Chris and Billy are above the gym rigging up the bucket of blood).
Sue, Tommy and Chris feel a lot more like charachters now, Billy doesnt but he never did in the book or film.
The lightning bit needs to go, it would look horrid.
The one argument i kept on hearing this time round was that it would fail again because it has no audience.
I think this is absurd.
Shows like Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia etc are targeting a specific audience. A show like Carrie is gonna get the younger crowd, people who loved the film, Broadway regulars, The gay audience, the cult audience etc. If this show was marketed right it could have a good few years in it.

Some of you are going to be waiting an awfully long time for this...
I still think that Signature Theatre here in Washington, DC is going to do it....

Wow. I never thought anyone could save the song "In", but holy crap... that version of "In" was actually really good. It looks like this score has hope after all!

Dantes, I've always supported you from Day one and agree with you more as to what you've said...except for two things.
"I'm Not Alone" is far better than "Why Not Me?" I gave "Why Not Me?" a chance, but it's not memorable, and "I'm Not Alone" was such a powerful number. It just needs some revisions...but it's such a catchy number and especially because the audience will be divided between people who know Carrie and people who don't, for the people who don't know it, it will make them feel so bad she sings something as nice, sweet and innocent as "I'm Not Alone" and then have what happens to her happens.
Over the past two years when I've gotten to know Carrie: The Musical, I've come up with the conclusion of that it's great, but I don't know if it is really meant for anyone other than musical theatre fanatics who also love Stephen King and the films. But the thing is, is that Carrie: The Musical is a TOTALLY different incarnation of the story than the '76 or the '02 film version. It's a musical adaptation of the book. So it's a totally different adaptation. Carrie was never meant to be musicalized, and as a piece of theatre it's not amazing, but the story has a great dramatic structure to it.
That being said, Carrie will never find a commercial audience. It's simply not marketable enough. Not that it CAN'T find ways to market itself, but a lot of what keeps Broadway shows are how they appeal to families and tourists. Carrie can slightly pull from the ladder; there are SEVERAL people from the UK who would give their first-born to see this show.
Here's how the process SHOULD go.
-Another workshop, but this time, staged.
-Pre-Broadway Try-Out in I'm thinking D.C. Or C.A. Maybe even Papermill?
-Move Off-Broadway or Encores. If the theatre people there love it, than it moves to Broadway.
I don't think even after any try-out goes it should go straight to Broadway. The hype would need to build from workshop until another professional incarnation. There should be a mutual agreement between Joe Shmoe audience goers who see it in its' try-out and professionals as well who should give it the green light. If one or the other doesn't like it, it shouldn't go. You can't please everyone, but if it's at least more than 3/4ths mutual agreement, then I think it's safe to go to Broadway.
I think something will happen, but they're trying to figure it out now. Either that, or they felt like the new reading was so good as a reading and they want to leave it as that, just to prove it can work.
But Pitchford HAS to go, and Gore needs a collaborator.
If signature theatre does get their hands on this, I pray they consider Chan McQuay for Margaret. She was fantastic in See What i wanna see Kiss of the Spider Woman and I have heard great things about her current Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd!
This may seem like a dumb question, but where is everybody getting the recordings of some of the other workshop songs from? Because I followed the link on this thread and the only song I saw there was the revised version of "In". I'd really like to hear some of the other songs so if someone could point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated.
They are probably floating around. I hope that they put more up on the website as I am very interested to hear the revisions the creative team has made. From all that has been posted, it seems that they are on the right track.
Carrie will never work short of absolutely brilliant writing. The best efforts to do the thing straight will inevitably end up laughable.
It is now time for the creators to embrace Carrie's cult status and commit this thing to a concert reading for Equity Fights AIDS, and put out a recording.

I think the song that replaced Im Not Alone was weak, your probably right that the original song was better but i can't listen to it without thinking of dancing shoes and a prom dress haha
I have to disagree 100 percent thats it would not find an audience.
People said the same about shows like Next To Normal, Sweeney Tood etc, the public constantly suprise when it comes to what shows they will book for (Same with in The Heights.....a rap musical...on Broadway)
Also when Carrie played Stratford it was one of the fastest selling and most anticipated shows by the RSC. It got more press prior to opening in the UK that future blockbusters that appeared at the same time got (Miss Saigon, Forbiden Planet). On going to Broadway originally the show was building a nice advance, but once the word of mouth and then the reviews came out it simply stopped. As the main producer (Kurtz) said they closed the show out of fear more than anything else. Many people involved in the production felt that the show could run if it got through the storm, the producers inexperienced showed again when they pulled the plug so quick.

Yeah, it SOUNDS impressive....but those lyrics are still just awful. There's absolutely no tact or skill to them.
"Is my life one endless zit?" - That's just too comical. It doesn't live upto the intensity of the harmony and doesn't reflect teenage man-angst.
