Avenue Q (definatly)
Tick, Tick...Boom! (you'll love it if you love Rent, same composer)
The Last 5 Years
The Light in the Piazza (I'm listening to it as I type, different from what you own, but diversity is good)
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
The Wild Party (either Lippa or LaChiusa, I personally prefer LaChiusa, but a lot of people would argue, you might be safer with Lippa, judging on what you already like).
I'm a big fan of Jason Robert Brown, and William Finn, so check out some of their work. I've never been a big Hairspray fan, but a lot of people like it, so go for it if you want. There, pick and choose, there are other posts about this too, so look around. Enjoy.

Last 5 Years, I LOVE this!!
Avenue Q
The first 3 are in my top 5 fave cast recordings.

Anything by Jason Robert Brown is AMAZING!!!
Also, you should check out Falsettos by William Finn. THis is an amazing show and you will probably like it. It is a little bit different than what you have but, like LaVieBoheme said: "diversity is good"

Mamma Mia. Definitely.
Just kidding...the recording is heinous!
I would pick up something by Audra McDonald. Might not exactly be your cup of tea right now, but you'll soon learn to love it like I do...like most of this board does.

Agreed. The Mamma Mia recording is awful.
As for the question at hand, get Hairspray, definitely... Light in the Piazza is good, I love Avenue Q's score to death, and you might want to try The Producers.

- Little Women (I know not a lot of people are in love with this musical, but I love it and the emotion in the music reminds me of WICKED)
- The Light in the Piazza
- The Last 5 Years
Those are really the other ones (other than what you already have) that I can't live without. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is okay, but I've found that listening to it once is enough for a week or so.

The Last Five Years is usually a good crowd pleaser.
I also highly recommend Lippa's The Wild Party :0)
(I'm a piazza fan too but based just on the three recordings you listed...I'd wait)

West Side Story
Sweeney Todd
Kiss Me, Kate
Gypsy (with Merman, though the recent revival is also good)
Crazy for You (for a good selection of Gershwin)

Posted: 7/4/05 at 6:09pmI love Jason Robert Brown, well I like The Last 5 Years, so I'd def. recoommend that, but I didnt like Parade or Songs for a New World. I'm not really into song cycles, I like shows with a through line, if that makes sense? Just personal tastes. I would say try The Full Monty, I like Yazbek, but prefer Monty over DRS. Try Urinetown? Sounds like you like contemporary musical theater, as do i, so I would recommend that one. Enjoy.

Parade, in fact, is a full book musical. Not a song-cycle in any way shape or form. Thought I would point that out.
I really don't have anything to suggest that hasn't already been offered up.

Babes in Arms(Encores 1999 production with Erin Dilly)
Saturday Night(dancing people on the cover)
Les Miserables(10th anniversary is good. CSR is good too.)
Flower Drum Song(some people don't like it but you can always give it a shot)
The Producers
Urinetown
You're a Good Man Charlie Brown
Assassins(revival)
Aida
The Fix(there's only one recording which is the London but if you like Rent it's likely that you might like The Fix)
Thoroughly Modern Millie(with Sutton Foster)
Little Shop of Horrors(original broadway, which was previously called revival)
Little Women
Beauty and the Beast

Definetely TL5Y, tick,tick...BOOM!, DRS, and you might like Altar Boyz. If you're really religious, it might not be for you, but you have to be pretty open for a show like RENT, so maybe. Altar Boyz is a really funny show, and I have somewhat the same taste as you(sometimes), so you might like it.
Avenue Q, too. Not if you're too serious, though.
heart.
