What cast recordings have you not listened to in ages, but recently re-discovered?
I for one listened to the revival recordings of both "Hello, Dolly!" and "Kiss Me Kate" over the weekend.

The London cast of NIGHT MUSIC, which actually has a slightly sweeter sound than the original.
And a friend sent me FLAHOOLEY, which I hadn't heard in years. Fun, fun score, really screaming for a revival, even as a concert piece.
Some may find CARNIVAL "sticky-sweet," but I have recently rediscovered the lovely Bob Merrill Score, Anna Maria Alberghetti, and those cute little puppets!
And remember: "Love Makes The World 'Go Round." :)
Sean,
I agree. I find the West End cast recording of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC to be VASTLY superior to Broadway OBC.
Better vocals, more instrumentals, and you STILL have the always enchanting Hermione Gingold! :)

If you're looking for another rare little gem, track down BEN FRANKLIN IN PARIS. It was just re-released and well worth it.
Sean,
I think ANYTHING with Robert Preston is worthwhile! :)

Now I had to go into the archives and find old favs not listened to in a long time. GRASS HARP. CARNIVAL (definitely!). HENRY SWEET HENRY. DO I HEAR A WALTZ. BAJOUR. Damn, there's a lot of stuff.
Phantom of the Opera. I haven't listened to it in ages, but with all the stuff happening around- I've become re-obsessed if anyone counts that as a word.
AIDA. I've had it for over 2 years, maybe listened to it 3 times at the most. Then, 2 months ago, I picked it up again and became obsessed with it.
Beauty and the Beast. It was my first cast recording, and at first didn't care for much of the songs, so I rarely picked it up. Recently I picked it up again because I will be seeing it Wednesday.
DO I HEAR A WALTZ? is MONUMENTAL, but try and get the 2001 "new" recording with Alyson Reed--MUCH more complete.
Romance/Romance
I haven't listened to it in a while, but when it was originally released, I was obsessed with the score. I learned all the lyrics and bought the sheet music. Listening to it now, it still holds up. The songs are solid and the performances charming. Though such a small show was probably doomed in a Broadway house from the start, I'm surprised it hasn't been revived yet Off-Broadway.

Oh man, yeah to ROMANCE/ROMANCE. Besides, it's Scott Bakula (oo baby baby)..... :P~~~~~
Hairspray. I use to listen to it all the time, but then i forgot about it. So, now its been in my cd player a few times.

The term soundtrack is (I believe unfortunately) used by some people to refer to Original Cast Recordings, but they are not one and the same. Soundtracks are from movies, not from stage productions. They are recorded from the actual soundtracks of the film, and can be orchestral, a collection of background (pop) songs, a combination of both, or in the case of musical films like Chicago or the upcoming Phantom of the Opera, songs from a musical film. Original cast recordings are of Broadway/Off-Broadway/London, etc. musicals, recorded in a studio especially for release as a CD (or in years past on vinyl). Cast recordings are later recordings of a show, but not with the original cast.

I like the Canadian cast recording of SUNSET BOULEVARD with Diahann Carroll and Rex Smith.
They do a great job!
