No thank you. I'd rather some unknowns & then changing to established actresses for the later years.

How much time passes in the book? I honestly forget. I know at least nine months does.

Would Gwyneth Paltrow be too old to play Galinda? I could see it possibly working

Selena Gomez? God no...

I bet it'll be Zooey Deschanel for Elphaba.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

I meant just for the Shiz years. I would cast for the later years Lady GaGa as Elphaba and Natalie Portman as Glinda

Do you try at being this stupid?

I think carey mulligan could make a cute galinda who could also play an older glinda. I haven't seen much of her acting, but physically she could definitely pull it off. i can't even imagine who they would/could cast as elphaba.

I feel like Elphaba should be more strong and independent, so Zooey comes of a bit to sweet for me. Of course I haven't read the book in awhile.

In less than 2 months, Natalie Portman will likely be an Oscar winner who will be at the pinnacle of her fame.
She's not going to do a TV mini-series.

I would like to see Demi Moore as Elphaba. I know she expressed interest in making the book a movie a while ago.

The title of this thread is Casting Choices for ABC's Non Musical Wicked. Why in the world would Lady GaGa want to be a part of a non musical tv show? Hell I don't think Lady GaGa would even do this if it was an adaption of the musical on the big screen.

^Gaga has been pretty vocal about wanting to act. She swears she would audition for musicals, but was told she was "too pop" by producers.
also, there was a big rumor she was dying to get cast as Liza in the Judy Garland biopic with Anne Hatheway.

I really want them to just cast unknowns as the two girls
but I would LOVE to see Anne Hathaway play Elphaba...

Lady GaGa may be interested in acting, but she is not going to spend time acting in a non musical mini series or a Wicked movie. It is just not going to happen.

not to change the subject completely but since it was just mentioned are they EVER going to make the Judy Garland biopic?? it seems like they've been talking about Anne Hathaway doing it for years.

I know she expressed interest in making the book a movie a while ago.
She was attached to the film as Elphaba before the idea turned into the musical.

It's funny you say Gaga was told she was too pop for Broadway, because originally she wanted to become a theatrical performer, even went as far as studying at the intensive Circle In the Square summer program. When she went to NYU, she got into the hip hop crowd and then pursued pop music. So who knows, if she hadn't met the people she met, could she could have developed into a theatrical performer?
Just wanted to share that with everyone, I was at the circle program this past summer and found this crazy to find out...
But back to the non musical Wicked haha

With Selma Hayek attached to the project, it could attract a larger amount of higher profile actresses. That being said however, I hope they find two unknown girls for the younger versions of Elphaba and Glinda. For the older counterparts, Reese Witherspoon and Julia Murney!

Awesome program, by the way. Best training I ever had.

Mister Matt: I agree, the training I had there this past summer was the best...so thankful to have studied with that faculty!
& i could see Reese working if she would do it!

I really would like to see Reese Witherspoon play Glinda. I think she would be really good. But, I bet she's holding out for the musical version. (She can sing.)
Elphaba is a harder role to cast I think. I do wonder who they envision in the role.

What about Kaley Cuoco of the big bang theory? Not exactly sure of her dramatic acting but she is great comedic wise. She could be Galinda maybe.
