There's a guy who answers phones at my job who's telling everyone that he was just cast AS SHREK in the new musical headed to broadway...does anyone know if this is real? His name is Steven Glickman and I'm guessing he auditioned here in Los Angeles. He also says they cancelled all the other auditions across the country saying "We've found our lead"...really? Can anyone comfirm or deny this rumor for us? Thanks, jeff scott
It's certainly possible. The SHREK production was postponed because they couldn't find a "Shrek." It sounds right to me.

I'm alittle surprised they are casting an unknown actor.

I found that Craigslist as well, but it was written by his friend who books him as a stand-up comic...still sounds fishy to me.
thanks for the comment!

Everyone at my job is totally surprised that they'd cast a total unknown too...? But he says they wanted to cast an unknown. Of coarse he's also told everyone that he made it into Last Comic Standing, when in fact he only made the short-list of callbacks and NOT the the final show. Still think he's telling tall tales.
thanks for your comments, jeff

It's possible he is lying, but who knows? However, there were casting problems for that role. It wouldn't surprise me that they would want an unknown. Besides, the name SHREK would sell with or without an above-the-title star.
let's get norbert leo butz!!!
This does sound a little fishy to me. I would figure the producers would make him sign something saying he would not say anything publicly untill they make the announcement. Because they are making a HUGE deal out of this show. I would think all of the actors they cast would need to sign something like I mentioned above so the producers could release the casting at some big event thing. But that is just what I think tehy would do, and I don't know if they usually make them sign something so they can wait to announce the cast list at an event (if it's a big show like Shrek is).

STEVE GLICKMAN?! I don't know if we are talking about the same one. Ask him if he played Tevye in J*Companys Fiddler on the roof.
Well it does sound suspicious, however i did read the other day they have now found the man they want, he just isnt agreeing to the contract T&Cs for some reason, prob. over pay or contract length!
You should sleep with him. You know, just in case the show is fab and he wins the Tony. You could write your own version of "I slept with someone" and it can be added in for HiFi regional productions.

Has there been casting rumors floating about for Donkey, Fiona, Farquaad or any of the smaller roles like the Magic Mirror, Pinocchio, Gingerbread Man, the Three Pigs, and the Three Blind Mice? I don't know if they are making the Dragon a character or not.
The dragon is a set piece over the proscenium.
ok, I have no idea what proscenium means. so by that do you mean something similar to the dragon in Wicked, or the same idea and concept anyway?

Steven says he was in a production of Fiddler playing Tevya, but I don't know where it was...where was that J company's performaces?

Haven't contracts been terminated before for actors flapping their mouths around about casting before official notices? Or is my anus doing my talking today?
"ok, I have no idea what proscenium means."
Well, then you should learn. This is BROADWAYWORLD.COM!
Don't ever admit those kinds of thing ever again. You'll be attacked.
Short-term answer: yes, like the dragon at 'Wicked'.
Long-term answer: Wikipedia. It's not 100% reliable, but it does have TONS of information on all sorts of different topics. I'm at this awful stage in life where I find it indispensible.

Yes, I was alluding to the Time Dragon Clock in Wicked. If there's one thing brill about that show it is Lee's set.

Was Chester Gregory II as Donkey something that we came up with on the board or was that an actual rumor?
I think that was either confirmed or a rumor.
I am, at the very least, curious about the score considering the composer and what the casting calls have said.
Hmm, i'm also interested about the score. On the casting info sheet about Shrek it said must be able to sing Rock/Pop/RnB/Gospel. Interesting...

They wanted a Jack Black / young Meatloaf type for Shrek.
Why is anybody surprised they wiould cast an unknown? Disney cast unknowns in The Lion King. The title of the show is the star.
Well the last auditions were in LA on the 20th.. soo if he did indeed audition in LA.. there would be no need to cancel any others.. cause none were schduled. Also it is a staged reading.. and while he would get first refusel it doesn't mean he will indeed get to broadway.
