I guess I'm surprised because they shooting for actors, the likes of Tony winner Dan Fogler and two time Tony nominee Kevin Chamerlin. I was just somewhat expecting to see a recognizable name attached to the project as Shrek, but I totally agree with you that the name sells itself. And not to stereotype, but I'm sure that a lot of the people in the target audience (outside of the theatre community or avid fans) who will end up seeing this show wouldn't recognize Norbert Leo Butz from Danny Burstein so it's understandable if they cast an unknown.
PS - After typing Danny Burstein's name, I think he would have an interesting and awesome take on Farquaad!

Posted: 7/3/07 at 11:49pmI went to the audition in LA and the turn out was not that great. There were only a couple of people there that were equity and the rest were non-eq (It was was run as an open call). They were also making a documentary of the Making of Shrek the Musical.

Peter's probably too busy because of the NARNIA movies...
IMDB has him listed for Trumpkin. I forget which character that is, though.

Steve Glickman or whatever the **** his name is, he's playing Shrek.
I don't know him personally, but apparently he has a very brassy personallity and is kind of annoying. I know for a fact hee has the part though.
As for casting an unknown... they've been having open calls for the park of Shrek and Donkey, like... lots of them, for a while now. I went to one hoping to audition for the ensemble (I'm 5'8, 145lbs, and not ugly, at least I dont think so) and the oddest looking fat tall men were at this call.
They were looking for an unknown. I think Fiona might be a better known actress.
