I searched the boards to make sure no one had posted this, and I didn't find anything, so I'm sorry if there's another thread on this already.

Apparently the Weinstein Company is looking to do a film adaptation of Gypsy, with Academy Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones as Mama Rose, directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha)

A good online place to get info on current, past and upcoming films is IMDb.com. Nothing is listed there for a new Gypsy production so it looks like that project was shelved.

Not that we need a new Gypsy anyway. Hollywood remakes and sequels are an annoyance to me. I wish they'd focus on new things. But that's moneyland.

imdb.com is actually a TERRIBLE place to get news on upcoming movies.

upcomingmovies.com or even fandango.com is a better bet than imdb. they post a lot of bull**** and unconfirmed rumors (and try to pass it off as FACTS)... extremely obnoxious.

That depends on what you are looking for. You are right about upcoming stuff, it's sometimes way off and things change a lot, but if Gypsy were up and coming, it would be there now.

Off topic, but what movie musicals are in the works again? I know Mamma Mia! and Nine, but I know there is more. I remember something about a Jekyll & Hyde as well. Anyone remember (and I know smartasses, not Wicked :P)

MAMMA MIA! isn't in the works --- filming was completed months ago and the film is being released July 18, 2008.

NINE is in pre-production and begins filming in September 2008. The film is set for a Christmas 2009 release.

Any other info of a film-version of any Broadway musical is just rumour as nothing else is in development.

Thanks Brody! I knew that about Mamma Mia!, but didn't articulate it well. I am glad to hear though that Nine filming begins in the upcoming months!
