Does the price of tickets keep "natives" away?
And if it does, does it have an impact on the Broadway bottom line, or is it made up with tourism, so it's inconsequential?
I've lived in NYC my entire life, and would love to go see Broadway shows more often but don't have the patience to do the lottery or TKTS.
I was thinking about how many shows I've seen since I was 18, and it turns out that on average, I've gone to see a show every 2.5-3 years.
Which is pathetic, especially for someone who likes Broadway shows and buys soundtracks. I own more soundtracks than shows I've seen...
Am I missing out on good deals that I'm not aware of?

Between most shows offering 40% discounts you can purchase online, and the TodayTix app letting you avoid TKTS, and many lotteries now being in-app or online, and the papering sites, yeah, I'd say you're definitely missing out.
Use TDF, BroadwayBox and TodayTix--and stop complaining.
TodayTix pretty much is TKTS from your computer or smart phone.
How do you not have patience (the right spelling) for lotto? Apart from shows with huge crowds like Hamilton, if you don't show up as soon as the barell is taken out (because why?), it takes about the same time to enter and wait as it does to buy on telecharge or to walk up to the box office. You just can't really, really want to see the show.
Also, yeah, TodayTix. Based on the info you presented here, you don't really have an excuse. Buy more cast recordings, not soundtracks.

I've done the lotto once in a while (and won once). The lotto works on a casual day, when I don't care if I win or lose, but if I'm planning a day with friends or family they usually like to have a plan, knowing they are going to see xyz. Also, if I want to treat someone for a birthday or something like that...
I took everyone's advice and downloaded the Today Tix app. I'm excited to try it!!

Also when you buy your first ticket on TodayTix you can use the code FATIB and get an extra $10 off

"but don't have the patients to do the lottery or TKTS."
Patients? Not unless you're a doctor.
As PalJoey said, you can certainly find discounts on sites like BroadwayBox.com. You clearly have enough knowledge of the internet to find this website and complain, so you can certainly use BroadwayBox.
Join TDF if you meet the eligibility requirements. I don't use TKTS very often, but in the last few years, they have really improved the experience. The last two or three times I used it, the line (if there was one) moved quickly and I waited less than 15 minutes.
With some exceptions (like HAMILTON or WICKED) nearly every show on Broadway releases a discount code. If you live in the city, take the discount code to the box office -- that way you have more agency in choosing your seats and you save the ridiculous amount of fees.
I see 150+ shows a year about pay full price maybe 5% of the time. There are certainly many ways to see theater in New York without paying full price.

thanks SO much AC126748 and rsaleh!!
There was zero line at TKTS on Sunday night at 7PM or so, with tons of shows listed.
It doesn't take that much time if this is your option.

^ Probably because it was a holiday weekend. Most Broadway shows don't traditionally do Sunday nights.
It wasn't related to the holiday weekend. The holiday falls on a Monday, which is the day most shows are dark anyway, and even so, Labor Day isn't typically a holiday where performance schedules get revised. Sunday night shows are becoming somewhat common on Broadway -- or at least more common than they've been in the past.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you. When people are off work on Mondays, Sunday night shows are even more common. Hamilton, Kinky Boots & Beautiful, among others, all had extra shows Sunday 9/6.

There were about 10 Broadway shows available at TKTS Sunday night. So, 2/10 were added performances (Beautiful and Kinky Boots). The other shows were regularly scheduled.
My wife reminded me that we walked past the booth at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon and the lines had no more than 20 people in them as well.
