Posted: 11/22/06 at 12:08pmYeah they are purposely creepy. In the liner notes of the revival cd, someone (i forget who) mentions that the obsession Anthony has for Johanna is, in reality, only slightly less perverted than that of Judge Turpin. The song was no doubt written with this in mind.

Posted: 11/22/06 at 1:05pmHmmm, interesting! This makes Johanna and Anthony much more interesting. They weren't the most fascinating characters in the play to me. I'm going to have to reevaluate my view! (And reread the liner notes for the revival.)
