re: Chenoweth-Jazz or Opera?

I'm both a classical instrumentalist and jazz instrumentalist. And they're both just so difficult in their own ways.

Classical, everything must be precise and in place, or it will immediately sound wrong. It's even harder to cover.

Jazz, everything must be smooth, flowing, and relaxing. Jazz also requires some creativity from YOU because you have to put your own mark on it. Rather than replaying timeless Bach Sonatas that ANYONE will listen to, you have to be able to express a simple melody and translate it into this amazing jazz riff.
This is my signature.

She seems to sing both very well. She, Audra McDonald, and Sara Ramirez (I apoligize for any spelling butchery) are very good at using their classical training to their benefit.
If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I really like "Let Yourself Go" but I like her even better with opera.

I WANT IT BOTH and her voice sounds higher than Minnie Riperton and Mariah Carey. :)

re: Chenoweth-Jazz or Opera?

I don't think this thread warrents a discussion of an American musical inferiority complex. The question was which kind of music you prefer when sung by Ms. Chenoweth, and in that case I think that those who mentioned it were thoroughly justified in saying that her classical training enhances her abilities, overall. No one was saying that her operatic abilities qualify her as being "above" musical theater, only that the control and years of training that people like Chenoweth and McDonald bring to their work make them all-around more gifted vocalists.
