Chenoweth question

Posted: 4/1/06 at 2:26amA while ago, when I student interned at the NYC Opera, I picked up that Kristin Chenoweth played Christine in a German tour of the Phantom of the Opera. Having spent some time with her, and her never mentioning it, I dismissed the idea. Now, I look on her www.broadway.com portfolio, and in her resume is listed playing Christine in a German Phantom tour. Did anybody have the chance to see this? Was it in German? Was she a convincing Christine? Christines seem to be more jaded, and maybe taller...quite unlike Chenoweth. Was there a recording made? Just curious!

Posted: 4/1/06 at 2:49amRead carefully. Chenoweth was never in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. She was in PHANTOM (the 1991 musical by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit). Different show. She did PHANTOM at North Shore Music Theatre and on tour in Germany. No commercial recording was made, but the North Shore production is archived on video.

I agree that she would do well in the ALW Phantom. Is "Phantom" a good musical? Worth a CD purchase? Can't say that I'm really familiar with it. I can only assume that there is a fair amount of difficult singing on the part of Christine and others, though seeing as how it deals with the Paris Opera.
On a completely unrelated note...somebody a while ago mentioned that there is a Film&TV archival library, somewhere in this country. Are all closed Broadway musicals in this library for "archival" purposes? And could an ordinary little ol' me just stroll in and view?

Wait a tick!
I just went back to the broadway.com site, and it specifically lists THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA............CHRISTINE
Something's not right. Anybody want to clear this up?

wanna hear something funny? i was kristin's understudy at north shore! i was a very hysterical chorus girl who FREAKED out when the Phantom came in at the end of act one.
there is an archive video of this!? MAN would i LOVE to see that!!
i had such pretty costumes in that show...we all had to pray for kristin's health cause there was NO WAY i was wearing her costumes! i'm 5'7" LOL! she is a work horse!!! she actually DID get sick and did not miss a note! she was amazing..and we all knew she was going to be a big star even back then! i have the cutest pictures of her!
OH! and even funnier story... in the first scene "melodie d'paris" i played a flower seller...and i FELL OFF THE STAGE and my flowers went flying ALL OVER the place!
but back to the original thread...kristin would have been an amazing Christine...i would love to have seen her as Belle too.
OBVIOUSLY..her career has taken the perfect path!!

sorry broadwayboy..we were typing at the same time..didn't mean to seem like your post was ignored.
VERY often people just ASSUME that when someone says they have been in Phantom they mean POTO. on my resume it says Christine...Phantom and journalists just take it upon themselves to fill in the rest for some reason.
i knew kristin did something in Germany..but i really can't remember which..i don't think it was the ALW...i really don't.

Posted: 4/1/06 at 10:22am"Phantom" is definitely worth the purchase. I know that reviewers say that this musical has more "heart", but I like this and ALW's equally.

andrew (or anyone else), what year was this production of PHANTOM at NSMT?
Am I alone in thinking that Kristin wouldn't be a good Christine in POTO? I just think Kristin is too bubbly and charismatic for the role.

Posted: 4/1/06 at 1:33pmI was in one of the first productions of the Yeston Phantom back in the early 90's, and I believe that it is far superior to the ALW version. The score is rich and melodic, the story is very interesting, and it's a really fun show to be in.

red hot..did you do it in Westchester with GLory and/or Kim?
i am considering posting the pics..for some reason i am afriad kristin would be annoyed. the pics are cute though..unfortunately...i couldn't get any of her in costume...she was either onstage or changing and then running back out. christine doesn't stop much in that show except to change costumes.
i have pics from the train ride up to NSMT and from the parties.
