With all the complaints launched about the Tonys last night, I just wanted to point out what a classy dame Cherry Jones is. Obviously, Woolf is not doing as well at the box office as Doubt is and "needed" the Tony more than Doubt. And what does Cherry do first thing once she gets to the mic? Recognize Kathleen Turner and tell everyone that Virginia Woolf is not to be missed. Brava to Ms. Jones.
Jones was very classy last night. What a generous gesture to Kathleen Turner.
truth be told (and I am totally depressed that KT didn't win) that was very classy of her. I appreciated it very much.
I thought that was sweet too. I also thought it has something to do with the fact that it was so close between them, and Bill Irwin had just won......However, I still believe that Tony's aren't all about box office draw do honor performance......The fact that Cherry Jones won makes it hard to diagree with that statement!!!!!!

I take my hat off to Cherry Jones. I adore her.
the thing that hurt the most was in the moment that Bill Irwin's name was announced--and I was completely SHOCKED (and thrilled, I might add)--I really think that Kathleen thought, 'I might have a chance after all.'
I thought that too....I was also rooting for Kathleen - would have loved to have seen them tie.
But, like Audra last year, Cherry was class and elegance personified. Brava.
Yeah, when I saw that Bill Irwin won, I thought maybe Kathleen would too. I LOVED her enthusiam for bill!!!!!!
Cherry is ALWAYS gracious. If any of you saw the Drama Desks, she won that award right after Victoria Clark sang from Piazza and she was very vocal in her praise of Clark.
That she was so positive about Turner and Woolfe is just par for the course.
And how sad, might I add, that Jones would be an exception to the norm.
Yes. I think that she, David and Mirielle were all genuinely thrilled for Bill. I love it when a cast is as tight as the four of them seem to be, and really care about and root for each other. I also loved the BURST of applause from the audience. He may very well have gotten the most enthusiastic applause of the evening. Well-deserved. What a lovely, humbled man.

Some of the acceptance speeches this year moved me to tears. I've never seen so much support to those also involved in the craft. Almost everyone managed to congratulate their fellow nominees on their incredible work.
Most especially - Clark. "Kelli, you are my rock."
Definitely. I loved Kelli's reaction (trying to hold in her tears for the camera) when Vicki said she was her rock, her compass. Vicki's son was so cute too.
Bill Irwin was a highlight. Everyone there was just so grateful to be working and to be recognized.
You're right, Madame. There seemed to be an almost overwhelming feeling of humbled actors, who are happy to be nominated, happy to be working, and proud to be working in the theatre. We need more of that.
Listen to her speech in the Winner's Circle from the Tony Awards website......Funny!!!!!!
Just read a snippet from Bill Irwin about his Tony win... says he's 'going to share it with Kathleen, who inspires me everyday.' [tear]
i was really happy when cherry won. she was one of the few winners that didn't upset me.
even though she's great, I have to say, that was the most disappointing win for me
