You haven't lived until you've seen Elaine Page's arm-pumping Nobody's Side dance. Of course, like an idiot, I lent it to someone 12 years ago and that was the end of that. It's out of print.

Just a friendly FYI - there's no such thing as an album of the "London version," at least legally. The concept album features many of the people who were in the OLC, but the storyline is not identical. No London cast album was recorded, unfortunately.
Also, I'm not sure how much of an effect Michael Bennett would have had on the production. First of all, the London production actually did quite well and ran for a few years. Secondly, I think the reason why Chess is quite inaccessible is due to the confusing storyline rather than the music, staging, or anything else. If the book is too confusing, which it truly is to the average theatre-goer, or if it seems irrelevant, which happened with the Broadway production, the show isn't going to succeed.

^ Whoopsie. Since the London production retained much of the same cast, I tend to call the concept album the "London version".
It's tough to find, but if you can get your hands on this book, it details the making of the London stage production. I used to have it, but it disappeared. I think my boss sold it and then lied to me about it. ![]()
