Well I just got my ticket to the benefit concert of Chess for next monday night. Wow, I think this show will be amazing with Josh Groban as the russian. The only question i have is whether they are performing the British or the American version? Does anyone know? or is anyone else planning on attending?

They're doing a composite of the score, although I'm not sure of what they're taking from each different version. I think the goal is to cover as much of the possible material as they can.

It should be interesting to see what Adam Pascal does with Pity The Child.

Don't know about Pascal, but I'll bet Josh Groban will be anazing. I know the Chess Concert in Nyack really rocked. Brian D'Arcy James tore your insides out with his "Pity the Child". Rob Evan made you weak with his "Anthem" too. Also, Lauren Kennedy and Julie Murney (sp?), Danny Zolli's Arbiter...just everyone was top notch!

Sure wish someone would take charge of this show and bring it to Broadway again.

It has a huge following in Europe. They did a complete version that sounds wonderful. With the changes the show makes much more sense and flows easier.

A cast member I know just told me today that the cast recently had its first full company rehearsal. He said he was just hoping it would sound good and all. But then he was blown away by the greatness of it all. All he could say was, "wow." this is gonna be good. I cant wait!

I actually have a shot of attending this, thanks to a VERY VERY VERY VERY nice young lady that will be a part of the concert. I'll know tomorrow if I can go for sure. I'm really excited to see it. Robactorguy, I second what you said about recording this concert and how they didn't record Funny Girl. But yay for BLs. Updated On: 9/16/03 at 06:23 PM

I am excited that Sutton Foster is going to be a part of this concert. I hope that it becomes released on dvd.

I am seeing Millie with some friends this weekend and I'm hoping Sutton will be performing? I'm getting vibes because of the concert that she won't be?

I don't know, I know she has started rehersals already, but I'm not sure if the rehersals will effect her regular performance schedule. I know she's not performing tonight, because she's not feeling all that great. I'm sure she'll perform this weekend though. Obviously on monday, she won't perform.

I've heard from an inside source that they're not recording Chess. I'm very let down.

Making a recording like this is a legal mess because it would involve a handful of different record companies and red tape. Keep in mind several of the performers already have recording contracts and they just can't record anything anywhere without permission from their labels. Then it becomes a question of which label's going to get which royalty and it goes on and on. It's not surprising it's not being recorded.

although its disappointing it might not be recorded, i wouldnt be at all surprised if "anthem" and possible "you and i" appeared on josh groban's next album.

Again, I am terribly sadden by the fact that they may not record this. If it is a matter of legalities. I say this to those who balk about monies and what-not.... It is a benefit. For goodness sake and for the sake of us who cannot make it to the show would be more then happy to donate for the sake of a recording of this show. It for the greater good of the theater community.

(in case anyone cares about my earlier dilema) i've decided to go for getting tickets through the actors fund to safe myself the anxiety of the grand auction. plus, the prime tickets include almost everything the auction lot does:

Includes one Prime Orchestra seat, invitation to CHESS dress rehearsal/lunch with the company, invitation to VIP pre-performance cocktail party, invitation to Post-performance "cast party," limited edition signed CHESS poster, exclusive CHESS gift bag, and listing in the CHESS souvenir program)

i don't know anything about the show except that it's supposed to be great. i'm excited!!

If they did not perserve the final performance of "The Fantastics" on video, nothing surprises me. This proves Broadway is just a business. As soon as this idea came about & took shape, everyone involved should have immediately waived fees & royalties as all the money was going to charity. It is a shame so many things like this are forever lost because of this. This is a perfect example of why people try & make unauthorized recordings. I do not condone it but when will the powers that be come to their senses over making recordings (audio & video) available for sale to the public.Just think of the money lost for charity by not recording this. I would have bought it as all I have now is the concept album on LP & the hatchet job RCA Cast Album ( they are famous for taking what should be a 2 CD album & chopping it up to fit 1)
