is there a CD of this concert? if not, why not? Julia Murney and Josh Groban, HELLO???
If I'm not mistaken, Josh Groban is exactly the reason why the recording didn't happen. A deal couldn't be made with his record company. So, the most questionably-cast person -- in an otherwise PERFECT cast -- is to blame.

No, there's not. It had something to do with either (or both, I guess) a problem in getting the rights to record Chess itself, or a problem regarding Josh's record label, in that he would be recording with another to make the CD.
Quite unfortunate, alas.

sonufab**ch. argh!
I know. This ranks HIGH up there on criminally unrecorded shows.
I'm pretty sure I've seen video footage OF a recording session. So, I think it happened and they got close, but it fell through.
That's one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Adam and Julia were BORN to play those roles...and it certainly couldn't hurt to have a better English-language recording of the show.
Adam thinks he knows how to fix the book and make it work. He said he'd do the show again in a heartbeat.
I doubt there's anyone out there with the power to take a chance on him, though -- at least in terms of bookwriting.
The Danish tour is just fine, with the exception of not having Julia.
Adam was OK - but the rap...C'mon! It wasn't even funny unbearable...
::runs from Em's stones::
Well, if a revival happens without Adam as Freddie, then I don't trust any of the producers' other choices either! :)
The rap is one of the funniest things I have ever been witness to. EVER.
I don't think there would be a problem with him playing the role, but if he's like "um, I wanna write the book," people MIGHT laugh.
True...but the book has been through SO many incarnations, they just might not turn down the input.
haha, might as well give it another shot?
Well, I'd be curious. Because I think he's smarter than he gets credit for being.
DO you?
They should have McNally come in and fix the books. Just for fun.
All he wants? Careful there. His head will get too big!
Yeah, I do.
*pokes Adam*
Well, while he's doing NOTHING, he should try it.

LOL, Adam would rewrite it with FREDDIE as the main character.
Anyway, it really is unfortunate that a legal recording of this doesn't exist. I really do prefer this concert over both the OBC and concept recordings.
He sort of was in the benefit anyway. Maybe that's why he enjoyed doing it so much.
I am a huge fan of Chess and I thought everyone was GREAT, especially Adam! I didn't care for Julia's rendition of "Nobody's on nobodys side" was actually the weakest part of the show. When she tried to reach those high notes it was somewhat painfull...but thats just my opinion. Thats not saying I wouldn't LOVE to have this cast on CD...Raul is one of my favortie performers and the Arbiter character was PERFECT for him!!! Again don't kill me about Julia, she is an amazing performer, just not my first choice for Florence.

Really? While I thought Freddie was brought to the front, so to speak, more than in previous incarnations of Chess, I think Anatoly and/or Florence were still the central characters.
I did find myself "cheering" for Freddie more so than in the other versions of Chess, but maybe it's just because it's ADAM. Heh.
When she tried to reach those high notes it was somewhat painfull
I'll be the first admit that I'm not a huge Julia fan, but that yelping in the middle of the song? Yeah, huge no-no.

Raul looked so dorky in Chess =P
Adam looked awesome though.
I saw the concert (from the first row) and nearly died. Groban and Murney were perfection. Pascal was all-right; didn't care for Sutton, who was too innocent for Svetlana. Esparza was brilliant as the Arbiter.
It was archived for Lincoln Center, I believe.
I dont' really know much about the show or Sutton's character, but I DO know that her version of "Somdbody Else's Story" had me in tears. Heart-wrenching.
It really is tragic that there was no recording of this released.
That's really interesting about Adam having ideas about the book, though... I hadn't heard that, but it could definitely use some rewriting. It'd be great to see a revival of this.

I would kill for a recording, if just for Adam Pascal as Freddie. I LOVE Freddie, and it would be so nice to hear someone who finally does the role justice!
