Posted: 7/7/05 at 11:29amIs anyone else going to the concert performance of this at the end of August at Ravinia? I am so thrilled! This will be the second time I get to see Michael Cerveris, although hopefully not the last time this year (Sweeney Todd!). And Patti Lupone and Audra McDonald? Yes, please! And let's not forget John Mahoney as the narrator. He's precious. I'm just so excited!

I have a love/hate thing with Ravinia-- I love the place, the grounds, the season, but I hate how much of a hassle it is to get in and out when there is a big show- The packed train, the endless traffic jams.
Add to that the packed lawn with no view of the stage and I'm not sure yet if I'm going or not. Sounds great though!

Coincidently, I just ordered my tickets for both ANYONE CAN WHISTLE and BETTY BUCKLEY IN CONCERT for that weekend.
I'm terribly excited.

Joe--
I figured traffic would be a nightmare. I guess I'll just resign myself to hanging out for an hour or two until I can get the Metra. I've not been out there myself yet. (I've only lived in Chicago since February.)
And in regard to the lawn tickets, I will NEVER buy lawn seats. Frankly, it would make me sadder to have crappy seats than to have no seats at all. If I'm going to a show, I'm going all the way up front. Which explains why I'm broke all the time.

I'm so excited you got tickets! I bought mine a couple months back thinking it would sell out like crazy. I'm surprised it hasn't. But that means you get to go now, too!

Posted: 7/7/05 at 12:52pmI would love to see the concert, if I can get someone to see it with me. And even if I do go, I'd get lawn tickets and stand at the outside of the entrance (kinda like SRO).

Yeah Sorry if I go I'll spring for seats- that lawn is just not worth it, especially since I'm old.
And watch that train schedule! There is nothing worse than being trapped in Highland Park for the night because you have missed the last train! My tranist tip is if you have a car, drive up past Ravinia to Highland Park and park there. They have shuttles that drive you to the park. Then you can miss a lot of the REALLY bad tie ups on those little back roads.
And welcome to Chicago! Hope you are enjoying it!

Posted: 7/7/05 at 1:09pmI'm so going. I bought my tickets as soon as they went on sale. I'm flying up from Atlanta, and I can not wait.

"Sunday in the Park With George" was sublime last year.
Hope to make it to "Anyone Can Whistle" which I've never seen. I'll be heavily involved with 'Dance For Life' around the same time so I'm not sure I'll get to Ravinia, but at least I know someone on the inside who can help me out at the last minute.
May all who attend have a highly enjoyable experience.
Ravinia is beautiful.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 2:02pmglebb, can you comment anymore on how audra was as dot? i don't know if i'm having trouble with it because of audra or because of bernadette... i can't imagine them playing the same role... but i do love audra and am sure her interpretation of those songs was gorgeous.

Audra was gorgeous and had a different take on Dot. Saw her backstage but was too shy to ask for her autograph though I bet she would have been fine. She looked almost like a little girl.
I saw BP in the original production and she was perfection, in my opinion. The thing about Ravinia is that the productions are not full scale sets and costume performances. A lot is left to the imagination.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 2:23pmSo is there a stage door or anything like that at Ravinia? I had assumed there wouldn't be, since it's a concert, but that would be so great if there were. (Help me! I'm turning into a scary groupie!)

There is a stage door at Ravinia. It leads to the parking lot used by performers and crew, so I don't know if you can get to it.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 2:32pmOh, no good. Well, I suppose I've already met Cerveris once. Twice is asking for too much. I am so thrilled for the performance! Whee! (I just took some Excedrin, so forgive the hyper.)

Posted: 7/7/05 at 3:43pmI saw ben folds and sat on the lawn last year and am doing it again this year b/c i really like just being able to hang out and talk and still have the music right there. But I can see how it might be bad for a musical theatre concert (staged reading?)
re: Chicago Anyone Can Whistle#15
Posted: 7/7/05 at 5:55pmThere is a stage door. If you are facing the stage, it's on the left. There's a fence there and I'm sure people will be waiting there with you.
