Gwen Verdon's "Me and My Baby" on the OBC: Is this an abbreviated version of the song as seen in the original production of the show, or did they "speed up" the song for the revival?
I remember that Gwen sang the song first as you hear it on the album and then did the up-tempo dance with the boys without any vocals.
Wait--the current production of 'Chicago' is a revival? I had no idea! Sorry if I am bringing up stupid stuff, I just didn't know! Hmm...
^ oooh my.
Yes, Wildcat is right. I have the script for the original, it says she sings the verse in the wheel chair, than she gets up and does the uptempo with the boys. But in the script they have lyrics for the uptempo part. Hmm interesting.
I wish they kept the ballad version for the revival, it sounds pretty as a ballad.

I prefer the song uptempo.
Well you know in the revival after "I Know A Girl", Roxie goes "My dear little baby, My sweet little baby" and Velma imitates her. Then Roxie goes "Look at my baby and me!" and it goes right in the uptempo. But I would imagine in the original she did that first part, then it continued into the ballad. Then eventually after the ballad she does the "Look at my baby and me!" and she goes right into the uptempo.
If that made sense, what I just wrote - I wish they did it like that in the revival. Roxie dosen't have that much to sing in the show anyway.
Didn't she sing "Look at my baby and me" and then pull a pillow out from under her blouse? Big laugh then into the up-tempo? Or did I hallucinate all of that?
(Gwen in the original, I mean)
Or was it a bowler hat!
