Ummm...why did they completely change Chip Tolentino into a Jew?

Maybe they wanted that actor, and the name was flexible.

They had a hard time finding a filipino actor, and wanted to stick with chicago based cast. Supposedly the dialogue will be the same.

The Australian version didn't employ a Filipino actor for Chip and everything remained exactly the same.

Forgive me for maybe missing something, but is there anything specific in the show that pre determines that Chip Tolentino has to be Filipino? I don't recall it if there is...

Nothing, just the surname (which isn't inherently Filipino, either; I guess his surname should be Cayabayab or Consing or something to be more obvious).

Although when I saw it in SF, Marcy exclaimed, "I ALWAYS KNEW YOU WERE ASIAN!" when the Chip actor returned as...well, you know.

I'm not sure if that was an adlib, though. I've only seen the show once so far.

That line is actually always in the show. Although, I haven't seen any understudies go on for Aaron yet, so maybe it changes then.

Yeah, I think it's ad-libbed for Aaron like the thing Stanley does with Sara. But I don't see why hi sname is changed. To me it's not the same. Chip is CHilito Tolentiono Damnit, not Issac.

I was really surprised they changed Chip for the Chicago production but at the same time, when Evan D'Angeles went on as Mitch Mahoney in SF, they kept Mitch's full name but turned him into a "Stand and Deliver" Latino gangbanger type...

I don't see anything wrong with it if they thought it was neccessary, but 99% of the audience isn't going to exclaim in horror, I don't think.

That line is only used for the adult show in NYC.
