As Chicagoist put it, "This article really gets under our skin because there's actually a need for a good, smart version of this story."

Wow, what crawled up this website's butt? I thought the article was great. They recommended great shows across a wide range (From partially improved to big name shows to storefront theaters to dramas to musicals) and pretty much made the case that theater is for everyone.
And telling people to get there 10 mintues early is absolutely necessary. How many threads have there been on here about people who don't know how to behave in the theater. Wasn't there just a thread about people coming late to Color Purple and being pissed the show started? I don't think it's insulting people's intelligence. I took a friend to see Chicago and he was going to leave at intermission- he had no idea there would be a second act.
And I don't think it's the least bit homophobic. Musicals are pretty gay.

I was reading the original article by Beth Franken and I erally hope she is joking...
The reason composers write overtures is so that when you then hear the song in the play, it won't be the first time you've heard the music, and you'll like it more because we never like songs as much the first time as we do the second, third, fourth, or fifth.
Where the hell did she get that from?

Thank you, Chicagoist, for saving me from the scourge of heterophobia! I'm glad someone has the balls to knock those uppity fags down a peg or two.
Exercise your heterosexual privilege. Reclaim musical theatre for the straights!

Posted: 11/2/07 at 11:32amI just wanted to bump this so I could apologize on behalf of gay people everywhere to any straight people who may have been considered gay-by-association because of their love of musical theatre. It must be absolutely terrible to have someone assume such an awful thing about you.
