Going to be in town for a couple of days next month to see Wicked. I'm looking for a reasonably priced hotel near the Ford Center. Cheaper is better, but I don't want to be in some rat hole. It would be preferable to be within walking distance of the Ford Center, but not necessary.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

the allegro right down the street is a good bet.

Was just in Chicago over Memorial Day and stayed at The Hilton Chicago on Michigan Avenue. LOVED IT!!!! A great, grand old hotel.

I also saw "Wicked," too. The hotel is a nice 15-20 minute walk to the theatre district. It's in a perfectly safe part of town.........no worries walking back to the hotel in the late evening after I saw "Wicked."

I highly recommend staying at The Hilton Chicago! The rate I got was $109 a night, which is a very good rate!

I stayed at the Travelodge. It was a couple blocks from the lake...kinda looked ghetto, but it was very cool, and very cheap! The room was HUGE and really clean. Plus, it had a little kitchenette with a fridge.

Perhaps not as close as you'd like, but I'm staying at the Essex Inn [http://www.essexinn.com/] which looks fantastic and was only $60 a night! Plus there's a free shuttle up and down Michigan avenue.

If you can afford it the Palmer House Hilton is pretty sweet.

Hotel Monaco - if you get lonely they'll bring a goldfish in a bowl to your room.

The Palmer House is a really quick walk from the theater, but its a little pricey.

There is also a decent Holiday Inn (City Centre) near Michigan Ave that is not too far.

If you're looking for something (relatively) cheap yet decent, the Best Western off of Michigan Ave. is good.

Does anyone have any experience with the Inn at Lincoln Park? They are offering a good rate for the days I'll be in town. How easy is it to get to the theaters from there?

That's a 20 minute train ride I'd say. Kind of far but if you don't mind getting used to the CTA, go for it.

The Inn is OK, beautiful view of the park and Lake if you get the right room, but it is a ways from the Theater. You could take a bus or cab, certainly. The Oriental (Ford Center) is in the Loop, the business district. It's a nice part of town but gets pretty quiet after dark.
I'm not sure of pricing this time of year, but the Atwood is a lovely boutique-style hotel about a block away. The Palmer house is a chicago classic. The Allegro is right there, and very nice if pricey.

Have fun!
