Chicago vs Broadway start times

Hello!

My friend from out of town is visiting me in Chicago this weekend. We've seen three shows (btw, if you're around go see Linda Vista at Steppenwolf). Something she noted was that Chicago common start time is at 7:30 p.m. compared to NYC's regular start time of 8 p.m.

Is there a specific reasoning behind this? She mentioned she read it somewhere before. My guess was because of the CTA/Metra compared to NYC's Transit.

I think all Broadway shows now begin at 7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays because it gets more people in the theatre on those nights I guess. I know in London they begin at 7:30 because the tubes stop running, so that may be the reason in Chicago too. I think years ago shows on Broadway used to start at 8:30, which is when the phrase "11 o clock number" came about and made more sense.
