Full line up due to be announced next week (18th I think) but rumour is 42nd Street will be its summer musical

Chichester Festival 2010

i dont know if they're doing more than one musical, but my friend has an audition coming up for a new movie adaptation at Chichester to open this summer with hopes of a transfer....

Chichester Festival 2010

oh interesting! Mind you, last year they did Funny Girl and Oklahoma so its possible, or was it the year before with Music Man? Either way they have done two musicals before

Chichester Festival 2010

They've been doing West End transferable musicals for over 40 years!

Fingers crossed for 42nd Street, been dying to see a good production of this show for decades (since in closed at Drury Lane really!)

AG2, so pleased it isnt just me who chose to forget the Dominion production!

Here ya go, get out your tap shoe's Francis!

'Andrew Wright will choreograph a brand new production of '42nd Street' at Chichester Festival Theatre this Summer.
Directed by Paul Kerryson'

..it all seemed great until I got to the directed by bit...

EXACTLY what I thought!

hmmm...Would have perfered a better director and probably Stephen Mear to choreograph... however, I have been longing to see a new professional production (I ignore the recent UK Tour and the Dominion out of my head!) so I am very much looking forward to this.

I do have a slight sinking feeling in that I feel they may try to minamilse the show and to me there is only one way to do 42nd Street and that is with an army of tap dancers and pure show biz razzel dazzel!

Chichester Festival 2010

They have no choice really other than to minamalise it for staging at Chichester.
Guess we wont get the stunning opening of the house tans' they don't have any!

Chichester Festival 2010

no curtain to just see those tap shoes going at it either... I just don't know if this will work... Looking forward to it though.

Is this the only musical Chichester are providing for us this season?

Chichester Festival 2010

LOL-
I literally cried when that curtain went up on the first preview at Drury Lane, it was strange because the build up to the show arriving in London was huge but nobody really explained those first few minutes (thank god- imagine today with al the internet chat!)- theatrical magic!

Hey, hey, hey!

Twinks may have had a few misses as well as a few hits in his career but he made a good job of Light in the Piazza last year.

What really caught my eye though was the musical version of Love Story at the Minerva with music by Howard Goodall. It takes a bold individual to put a film on stage without the classic song that's associated with it.

It's a bit like doing a stage version of Breakfast at Tiffanys without Moon River.

Oh,

errrr,

maybe I shouldn't have said that.

Or a stage version of Sister Act without the iconic Motown songs!

Paul Kerryson's doing MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG up at t'Curve this year, isn't he? I immensely regret not making the trip for PIAZZA (which I will presumably now never see) so should probably do so for this.

I can take or leave 42ND STREET (not big on Golden Age shows) but am immensely curious as to how mawkish LOVE STORY ends up being. I don't know Howard Goodall's work at all (somehow I have avoided ever seeing THE HIRED MAN!) but it's a rather sentimental choice I'd have thought.

HERE'S THE 2010 SEASON.

The Festival Theatre main auditorium season is:
**'Yes, Prime Minister': 20th May - 5th June, previews May 13th. Adapted for the stage by the writers of the original TV show. Henry Goodman stars.
**'42nd St': 1 July - 28 Aug, previews from 21 June.
**'Pygmalion': starring Rupert Everett and Stephanie Cole.
**'Enron': 10 - 18 Sept.
**'A Month In The Country': 30 September to 16 October, previews from 24 Sept. Directed by Jonathan Kent.

The small Minerva Studio 2010 season is:
**Edward Bond's 1973 play, 'Bingo'. Patrick Stewart play Shakespeare. 23rd Apr -22nd May, previews Apr 15th.
**'Love Story' featuring music by Howard Goodall.
**A double bill of Sheridan's 'The Critic' and Tom Stoppard's 'The Real Inspector Hound': 9 July - 28 August, previews from 2 July.
**'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists': 19 July - 26 Aug, previews from 15 July.
Ibsen's 'The Master Builder' starring Michael Pennington. 15 September to 9 October, previews from 9 Sept

'The Hired Man' is gorgeous, absolutely beautiful. Its Astoria production was stunning, I saw it 3 times in its very brief run.
I'm not sure if I'll be saying the same about 'Love Story' but we'll see. Its only a very small Minerva production.
