We know, for better or worse they exist in film. I know, I know, if it's a good show it's a good show. But some shows are directed for one audience more than another.
Do they exist on stage? Shows that guys seem to prefer and show that "girls" (women) seem to prefer? I really like My Fair Lady but I'm not certain guys like it as much as me.

I think Urinetown and Adrift in Macao, are definitely guy attracting plays. My Fair Lady, Mame, Beauty and the Beast...these are probably 95% ladies' preference (of course these are just a few, let's hear more...!)
Legally Blonde and Hairspray pretty blatantly play to the females.
Are we qualifying to mean "straight" guys or just saying all guys?

On a film-related board the topic of "guy films" came up and I once offered Paris is Burning for being a guy film of a different type. But "chicks" do like that film, too. I know straight men who like that film as an interesting look at a sub-culture.
To answer your question, I'd say anything goes. Please don't hesitate to say what kind of "guy show" we're referring to.
Likewise for women's shows.
I read an article about the MANLIEST musicals once. They listed 'Les Miserables' (war movie that can hold a tune), 'Sweeney Todd' (no duh), 'West Side Story' (gang warfare and all tha shiznit), and '1776' (I forget why), among others.
I think 'High Fidelity' was meant to be a guy show. I'm sure 'The Wedding Singer' was hoping to get more guys. I know there's a certain manly contingent who enjoy 'We Will Rock You'. I think 'Jersey Boys', 'Avenue Q', and 'Spamalot' are pretty guy-friendly.
I'd disagree about My Fair Lady. The simple fact is, My Fair Lady is a GENIUS show - well written and smart with a fantastic score. I wouldn't say that's a "guy" or "girl" show per se, just a quality one. I would say something like Mame or Hello Dolly skews more female.
Spamalot DESPERATELY tries to market itself as a "guy show."
Jersey Boys is also heavily marketed towards "the husbands."

Wow, when was the last time you talked to a straight guy? Most of the guys I know couldn't care less whether or not a musical is "brilliant"--it's still "girly."
