Something to look forward to for Spring:
"BROADWAY legend Chita Rivera, following a path blazed a few seasons back by Elaine Stritch, is putting together an autobiographical show of her own.
Called "A Dancer's Life," it charts Rivera's 50-year career in the theater, and features anecdotes and songs from many of the famous shows in which she has appeared — "Can-Can," "West Side Story," "Bye, Bye Birdie" and "Chicago."
Rivera performed the show last week for a handful of potential backers, and the word is that it went so well, she and her producer, Marty Bell, shouldn't have any trouble raising the $3.5 million or so needed to bring it to Broadway, possibly in the spring."

"a path blazed a few seasons back by Elaine Stritch"
As much as I love her I think this is an over-statment. Think Noel Coward, Marlene Dietrich, Comden and Green... heck, I think even Brenhart and Duse did it.

Posted: 7/16/04 at 4:59pmBea Arthur's show a few years ago was also quite excellent. I ended up seeing it three times, actually.
re: Chita Rivera -- A Dancer's Life#9
Posted: 7/16/04 at 10:14pmHope it not anything like "Chita And All That Jazz"..a truly horrid evening that ended Act 1 with Chita doing the Maria "How many bullits, Chino" scene from West Side Story.

re: Chita Rivera -- A Dancer's Life#11
Posted: 7/16/04 at 10:45pmThis is NOT a joke. I would pay top dollar to see Courtney Love do a show like that.

Posted: 7/16/04 at 11:03pmI think Debbie Reynolds would be quite entertaining.

I would have paid top dollar to see Courtney Love doa show like this around the time she put out the Celebrity Skin album because she'd fallen to pieces and managed to put everything back together again and emerge triumphant. But now? No way, José.
And as for Chita's show, I would absolutely kill to see it. And as I am planning to head to NY early next year, hopefully I should get to see it.
