I think Chitty does not deserve good behavior. I was sitting quietly and clapping if necessary. But God, I was bored to death and I totally understood those poor kids.

Oh, honey, not again. I don't care how much you hate it, but to say it doesn't deserve good behavior?! Those people on stage are WORKING their butts off - they deserve the respect of a behaved audience. That's almost worse than saying you wished it'd close. I know you can't expect a child to behave well when bored, but there's another hugely distasteful statement.

Sandra, no show deserves bad audiences and / or behavior. Jusy because you don't like it, doesn't mean others ont like it. I saw it, I enjoyed it. It's not AMAZING but its fun, light, and enjoyable.

So...if a child is in school, but he/she finds the teacher's lesson boring, he/she should just ignore the teacher, start chatting with friends or walk out of the class? Going to the theater comes with certain rules of etiquette, and your enjoyment of the show does not correspond with whether or not you should follow those rules. Otherwise, I would have been on my cell phone the entire time when I saw Jackie Mason.

You should not do your cellphone thing because you are not a child any more. If you are child, you are not blamed.
A child don't need to sit 1 hr for a class he did not like. How long is a class? A child don't need to pay $70 bucks for a class either.

Apparently you didn't sit through many classes as a child, because your grammar is awful!

Also, about not talking to me, idc who you are talking to. This is a public message board and anyone can post on here.

I think we're going in circles, Sanda. re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Review, July 30th, 7 PM

OK. Let's see if we can agree on this much. I'll concede that Chitty has some slow parts and might not be as charming of a kid's show as, say, The Lion's King. And that children are going to get antsy if they're bored.

But the children at my performance were more than antsy. They were talking -- loudly. And the parents were talking loudly back. They were running in the aisles during the show. They were crawling over the seats. When the behavior gets to that point, the parents really need to put their feet down.

I saw the show on July 28th as a part of five day seven show NYC visit and wrote about it in the following thread:

https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?boardname=bway&thread=861490#1283629

Here what I had to say about Chitty:

Well, I went into this show not expecting too much and I came out with mixed reactions. There should be no doubt that the villains own this show. Marc Kudisch as the Baron and Jan Maxwell as the Baroness were both brilliant! Keven Cahoon as the Childcatcher was pretty good as well. I felt that the role of the grandfather was wasted on Philip Bosco and both Raul Esparza and Erin Dilly really did very little for me. There was NO chemistry between them. Their songs were nice but I could not wait for villains to reappear. I've seen the helicopter and the chandelier and I have to say that the car in this production is one of the best special mechanical effects that I've seen on Broadway. Now I know this is a children’s show and they are expected to react but some parents let them go a bit too far. There was a child sitting behind me who, at the top of his voice, asked the adult with him, ever-conceivable question there was as to what was going to happen next. The adult then would answer at the same vocal level. Needless to say I was annoyed but was restrained by my friend from turning around and saying something. A few seats from this child was another kid with a bag of chips, which rustled for a god ten minutes. AHHH! I was wishing that the Childcatcher would come up to mezzanine and take those kids away. I paid over a hundred dollars to see this show and no matter what I end up thinking about it I should be allowed to see it without these major distractions. Because it’s a “children’s show” parents should not feel as if their kids should have cart blanche in the theatre.

I think parents should definately learn to control their child. As a kid, i saw a lot of shows in nyc and i knew well nott o talk or bother anyone in the audience. i even knew to wait until intermission to go to the bathroom.

This has little to do with the discussion at hand, but I just walked by the theatre while running an errand, and I really want to see it like, right now. My friend who was with me seemed shocked that it's even been a week since my last haunt. I want to go agaaaaain.

Thank you. Now back to your regularly scheduled debate. re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Review, July 30th, 7 PM

boooo. Marc and Jan are hysterical, but I love me some Raúl. And truthfully, I wouldn't be QUITE such a fan if not for him - the show is cute, but he makes the experience about 100 times more enjoyable for me. I won't go if he's out, and once his contract is up, I'll probably hit it like once more before it closes.

Anyway... erm... okay, six.
I have a.... slight problem.

A *slight* problem?! You terrorize fellow posters and hypnotize them so they fall under Raul's spell!!
Run away, everyone! Don't let her get to you!

*end hyperness* Boy, I'm tired.
Raul rocks. Chitty rocks. Jan and Marc rock. The end. re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Review, July 30th, 7 PM
