I'm going to New York for a few days in may and I'm seeing five shows. I'm already seeing Rent, Wicked, Avenue Q, and Caroline or Change. Now I have to pick my fifth show and this is what I've narrowed it down to--
Bare
Twentieth Century
Beauty and the Beast
Mamma Mia
Which one do you guys think I should see?
Mamma Mia!
Probably Mamma Mia.
Mamma Mia, if you haven't already seen it. Would NOT recommend B&B...

what's wrong w/ b & b? i heard it was ok
i have the mamma mia cd, i dont love it. I'm thinking bare. What have you heard about this show?
The three people who responded said to go see Mamma Mia! Why did you even have it as a choice if you don't like the CD and had no intention on going? Ugh!
i would not recommend Mamma Mia - Twentieth Century might be a stronger bet.
I vote Mamma Mia too. Don't judge Mamma Mia by the CD. I also owned the OLC CD before I saw the show but when I did, it was much better than expected. (The singing voices, in particular, were much better, at least for the Cdn cast.)
Mamma Mia is fun if you like the music. I own the cd and love it but the show is only good if you love Abba.
I LOVE ABBA. But have only seen the show once.
It is fun. But if you hate the music don't bother.
Then again i am a Dancing Queen who can't dance.

Mamma Mia or Beauty and the Beast (although i hear B&B is not as good as it used to be)
I just saw Mamma Mia this past Wednesday and it was phenomenal. That's the best choice; very funny, and great dancing and singing. The show is also quite amazing, technically.
Chicago if you haven't seen it...it is my favorite. Mamma Mia is so much fun. You will be dancing and singing along. Both are good choices.
of the ones you listed, I'd pick Mamma Mia! Not one of my favorites, but just pure fun and a really good time. It's much more impressive on Broadway than you would think from listening to the OLCR. I wish they'd made an OBCR...
^ Very true. Was not impressed at all with the OLC recording. But Corine's right. You've gotta love Abba (or at least like Abba) to enjoy the show. If you're not familiar with the songs going into the show, it's going to be 2 hours of hell, I'd imagine. It wouldn't be nearly as entertaining as it is if you can't appreciate how out-of-context the songs have creatively been taken.
kill Christy Carlson-Romano. mamma mia!
see mama mia!
HAIRSPRAY, hands down :)
But from those you listed my vote goes to MAMMA MIA too !
Take care
I would not see Mamma Mia. Granted i found it entertaining, very but i am a die hard Abba fan. Shhh. My secret. The story is absurd and vapid. No offense. I really enjoyed it but if you are only in for a few days there are many better choices.
My suggestions:
Hairspray- It is fun, has a great message and great music.
Wonderful Town- Comden and Green classic. Donna Murphy.
If you can handle a breathtaking play (It is not for the meak)
The Normal Heart At the Public theater is a must see it is very sad but it is brilliant theater.
none of the above... go see I Am My Own Wife...

I am My Own Wife, Assasins, and Normal Heart at the Public.
Just my opinion I may be wrong.
TWOGAAB
"A Clas Act" will never die!
I think it really depends on what you're looking for...Mamma Mia is just really fun and the music is great, if you like Abba! There's not really a whole lot of depth to the show so if that's what you're looking for then pick something else. Have fun though and let us know what you think when u get back!
I loved I Am My Own Wife another great choice.
