"It is about a bunch of people who are whining about not working on Broadway, a career that isn't noble or important. It's about a bunch of people who don't want real jobs..."

"And while I do enjoy a good show..."

Well keep in mind that you enjoy your shows because these people work their asses off up to 8 times a week just so you can have a good time, as BSoBW2 implied.

"I have no desire to hear a bunch of people whine about how tough their life is because they chose a career where there are 10000% more of them than jobs. That's not entertainment."

Okay, well no one is forcing to you to see the show; however, it is entertainment. I'm sure a lot of actors/dancers/musicians can relate to these people whose stories are being told onstage each night. Sorry you couldn't find a personal connection with it.

Not finding a personal connection with the show is one thing, but saying they're up there "whining" and how they want a job that isn't "important" is a different issue. Personally, I don't find that argument to make any sense. There is a lot more to the show than "whining." Also, those same fictional characters who are up there busitng their asses, are just like those real people who make the good shows you enjoy so much. Maybe it's just because of how much I connected with the show. I don't know.

A Chorus Line

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

It depends on what type of stuff your daughter likes. Choose Hairspray is she's easily bored. Choose ACL if she's a bit more mature and actually listens to dialogue, or is a performer herself. Though the messages in ACL are so powerful, you don't need to be a performer to be touched by them.

Personally, I'd go with a ACL.

My daughter and I just read through the responses and it appears that the majority favor A Chorus Line.

I saw the original Chorus Line back in the late 70's. I adored the show and still listen to the original cast recording. I'm afraid the current show will not live up to my fond memories. I would love for my daughter to see A Chorus Line, but at age 16, I feel she has lots of time to see it. Therefore, I was favoring seeing Hairspray.

My daughter said she wants to see as many shows as possible and since Hairspray is coming to Chicago in December, she would rather see A Chorus Line on Broadway and Hairspray in Chicago.

I don't think we will be disappointed in either show.

We will continue to tally votes on this thread, thanks for the responses.

Well why not just do that then?
