I think an excellent choice for the role of Margaret...

I don't like Christine Andreas, so this is making me not as upset that the tour is coming nowhere near here.

Now who is playing Clara?

I wonder when the rest of the cast is going to be announced. I know one name I want to mention!

Me too...rehearsals about to begin so why not just release the full cast list officially instead of names slipping out one by one like this...???? This announcement has been due for weeks, but still one should have signed contracts back before sending out an "official press release"

I don't like Christine at all on The Scarlet Pimpernel recording.. too much vibratto. It scared me.
HMMMM... *shrugs* I hope she proves our doubts wrong... Of course anyone after Victoria would be a 'let down' if you know what I mean
BTW- I heard at my favorite bookstore today that in AUGUST, theya re relasing a hardback, coffee table book with the script, pistures, ect in it! Exciting!
I've never cared for Christine Andreas, so this isn't great news to me. Her tone and vibrato are dangerously uncontrolled. *crosses fingers for the rest of the cast*

Different strokes for different folks, I guess - it is that very vibrato that I love about her singing so much. She has a totally distinctive voice...and sometimes distinctive voices can elicit strong pros and cons from people. Certainly might in this case.
Christine Andreas is one of those people whom, in the Golden Age of the Broadway Musical, would have been a major star. Evidenced by the fact that her three biggest successes were in revivals of "My Fair Lady", "Oklahoma", and "On Your Toes."
I saw her ages ago in "On Your Toes" and she was delightful and just seemed eminently "huggable."
She's had bad luck with new shows. "Legs Diamond" she gets written out of in previews. She was Teresa Stratas' standby in "Rags" (and had to go on the first night of previews because Teresa either wouldn't or couldn't go on!) And "The Scarlet Pumpernickel," which is no great work of art, at least provided her with a steady paycheck.
I can't wait to see her in "Piazza." I can finally get my "On Your Toes" programme signed!
I am so excited for this, I did a master class with her and I have kept in touch with her ever since. She is amazing and deserves this so much. She will be amazing, her acting is amazing and her singing is gorgeous. Now I wish I could see the tour.
I love Christine Andreas, and I saw her on Broadway in "On Your Toes." She was absolutely gorgeous (think Kathryn Grayson in her prime), with a fluttery but appropriate voice for the '30s material... and her acting was first rate.
But her voice is SO specific... and I really can't picture it on Margaret's songs in "Piazza." Obviously she won the producing team over. I'm sure she'll act the hell out of it, regardless.
I hope they don't throw her in a blond or auburn wig. She's so striking as a brunette... but does that mean we'll have a brunette Clara? Hmmm.
Good or bad... Andreas's interpretation going to be VERY different that Clark's or Cohenour's.
From 2002...
I'm not happy about this either. Vibrato from hell.

Christine Andreas is a wonderful actress! Her vibrato is NOT to all tastes, but at the same time her voice is so distinctive that you can tell it's her from the first note. I know why people don't care for her, but I can tell you that in teh theater her flutter is not as pronounced as in recordings (it's still there, but not as strong). I have also been to her Cabaret act when she uses more straight tone and a more legit sound..... I guess we'll have to see! Her Fair Lady" recording (out of print) is one of the very best! Granted, this was YEARS ago (1977-7
, but when she first hit the boards it was stunning!
It's going to be interesting to see how the tour works out. I think that David Burnham has been cast as Fab

I don't mind her voice; in fact I bought one of her CDs once. I just had no idea she was a soprano as they are calling her on playbill.com. Her voice is so husky.
I didn't think she was a soprano at first but her voice does get up there. Oh and her high notes are really gorgeous, the vibrato slows a bit.

I'm excited, I think she has a beautiful voice. I can't wait for the Piazza tour!
I heard from a Piazza cast member that only 3 of the actual members from the broadway cast are going to be in the tour.
...And one will be Fabrizio - David Burnham - woohoo!

Best 12, Of course they will wig her. It's too much trouble to maintain Maragaret's hairstyle throughout the show. And on broadway the mother is a brunette, and clara is blonde. So why would the tour have a blonde margaret? Hair color is often different in families. I am the only redhead among brunettes.
