Christine Baranski and Ruthie Hensall to Star in Follies Concert This Spring

Yes, bizarre is the word. Stephanie Powers?? Will she be belting out "I'm Still Here" as well as she sang Margo in APPLAUSE at Paper Mill years ago?

Oy.

I went to London years ago to see the first production of FOLLIES, which had been strangely rewritten and revised, and went back again to see a one-night BBC radio broadcast with Donna McKechnie as Phyllis and Julia McKenzie as Sally, and both were wonderful. I will not be flying to London for this one.

The London production in the 80s was heavily revised and almost an entire rewrite of the show. It's just wrong. It was well-received at its time.

How old is Ben? Is he going to say to Hattie, "You were just a toddler in a low-cut dress, I didn't hear a note you howled" or is Ben being played by a 20 year old?

ETA: I caught Glee tonight for the first time in like 12 years and Jennifer Coolidge was on it. She was autotuned to the point that she didn't really sound like a human, but that's what everybody on that show sounds like when they sing. Like a bunch of unthreatening robots that almost reach uncanny valley.

Baranski as Phyllis, odd. But she's already done Mame, Mrs. Lovett, Carlotta. I guess she's got a bucket list. She'll be fine, well fine enough, but it just seems ... uneventful. Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, maybe as Phyllis, exciting, new. But this doesn't have much going on.
