Sitting through Cristy Carlson Romano's performance in Beauty and the Beast last weekend was one of the most horrifying theatrical experiences of my life. I thought she was absolutely atrocious. Vocally, she is a mess, and her acting is boring at best. Can someone verify this please so I know I'm not just being hyper-critical of this latest example of producers compromising artistic integrity for ticket sales?

I will give her that. She is extremely attractive and has a wonderfully appropriate look. Unfortunately, she is not starring in a production designed for deaf audiences.

hahaha chauvelin128, you are absolutely right on. Christy could not be much worse vocally. I think we all found that out on Even Stevens, which, dispite her random musical episode, happens to be one of my fav Disney Channel shows. but shes an OKAY actress, I'll give her that, and yes, shes cute. But no. Not Belle. AGREED 100%!!!

Ha ha ha ha ha.

Thanks to WhatDoINeedWithLove, I knew to stay FAR away from that theatre when she steps on the stage. The closest I came to seeing the show was hanging out by the theatre for an hour while they had the loading doors open one morning and were fiddling with the sets and stuff.

Yes, I am a geek and was TOTALLY enjoying watching the crew members at work! LOL.

I'm with you guys as well! I saw Christy as Belle in February and wasn't too fond with her performance. Although I'm not certain, there has to be a link to marketing Christy to the younger audiences, who know her from the Disney Channel. I mean Disney's pretty cunning when it comes to commercializing! :)

Your's truly,

I still say Jessica Grove would be a truly divine Belle.... opposite Cheyenne Jackson as Beast..... and if they returned the show to it's "glory" days and got rid of the second rate disaster at the Lunt.

I have several points to make. One, Leomaxfrank, I love you as well, and not just because you look like Christian Bale. Two, Megan McGinnis is extremely cute, wonderfully talented, and a sweet person. Three, Terry Mann is the god of the universe. Four, Ms. Romano is not the only problem over at the Lunt. Steve Blanchard put me to sleep and his first appearance as the Beast is about as intimidating as my next door neighbor's kitty Fluffles. The ensemble singing is LAME. The cast is just weak and over it. Although I suppose you don't really have to fight for the approval of an audience full of 12 year old Christy Romano fans...

I saw Steve Blanchard several years ago. I didn't like him.... and opposite Romano, it seems very... hmm... what is the word???? oh yes.. sleazey! (Broadwayguy2 is recalling shades of Richard "I am finally OUT) Chamberlain and Ice Block Benanti in Sound of Music)

You guys are being too hard on the girl. The night I saw it her singing was fine although, granted, it was early in her run. She may be wearing down. And she does bring a fan base with her. There were a lot of excited kids in the house and a mob scene at the stage door after. She's a nice person too. Give her a break!

What's wrong with criticizing a bad performance? If she's good at television acting, let her do that. But evidently her theatrical chops leave something to be desired. I don't see anything wrong with pointing that out, as long as it doesn't get personal.

Don't be so hard on her? This is a Broadway show we're talking about. This is supposed to be the pinnacle of American Theatre. I see no reason to accept anything less than a stellar performance. I understand that she may be getting tired and losing vocal chops. I feel for her. But I know there are a thousand other actresses in NYC alone who could sing her out of the water at every single performance without so much as a tickle in their throat, and they are the ones waiting tables at the Olive Garden. I'm not being mean. But ticket prices don't go down as a show gets later in its run--people who are seeing the show for the first time are paying the same amount as people who saw it when it was the freshest thing on Broadway, and they deserve quality performances.

I wasn't suggesting she - or anyone else - was not fair game for criticism. You're right, it's Broadway and the bar is set high. But I truly thought she fit nicely into the part. I was there with my young daughter who was totally gaga over her so perhaps my opinion was influenced just a tiny bit.

All right. To each their own, then. I know I liked Finding Nemo a lot more when I watched it with my younger siblings. :)

I saw her in the show and I didn't think she was terrible, she wasn't the best Belle I have seen but she wasn't terrible, her dancing was what bothered me the most she looked to choreographed you could almost see her counting in her head and maybe she had a little to much of a pop star type singing style but the show was still enjoyable, a little creepy with the Age difference between Belle and the beast but other then that....

I am watching her on Even Stevens right now...oh the joys of 2 in the morning...personally, I don't think I could sit and watch her on stage, something about her bothers me, I don't know what it is...

Well, "offal" does make sense in that context. In a really amusing way.

Naah, I think Cheyenne would make a better Gaston...why on earth would we want him to cover that face?
