Cirque du Soleils , New Touring Prodcution , KOOZA

Since the other Cirque is playing on Broadway. The orginal Cirque will be here in Boston. With its new touring production from September 5th - October 5th. And it will make it's way to New York in the Spring of 2009.

I know it's shaping up to be a great fall season in New York. But with the above mentioned and also Brigadonn. And cheap bus fares between both cities. You might want to consider a trip. joe

It's new for us on the East Coast. They tend to play warm climates. And move with the seasons. Thanks for pointing that out.

You misread my post NDR, I stated the orginal Cirque,

KOOZA was a lot of fun when I attended it with my whole family in San Francisco for Christmas 2007. I had never experienced a Cirque performance (while many of my family members already had many other shows under their belt).

Production-wise, it wasn't as new and elaborate as other past shows. And the story-line was lacking. But the performers, as always, were stunning.

And NOTHING cooler than the Wheel of Death in Act 2. Great band, singing, controtionists and juggler too.

KOOZA spent a good time in San Francisco and San Jose, CA Fall/Winter 2007. What's its future path?

Kooza started to turn me of off Cirque. I've seen every one of the tours that have come through SF and I'm going to need a lot of convincing to see Cirque again.

The only Cirque du Soleil show I've seen was O at the Bellagio in LV. It was incredible. I still listen to the soundtrack every once in a while.

I saw Saltimbanco when it made it's way to Texas. It makes a huge difference when they moved it into an arena, definitely loses a lot of the intimacy.

Tent or chapteau? I'm not good with foreign tongue. So excuse my French.

I LOVED Saltimbanco, but it was also my first Cirque show back in 1992 (?). Did they really move it out of a tent? Shame.

I saw Saltimbanco in June and it was AMAZING!!! I didn't feel any loss of intamacy...

Alterego, Corteo was the last touring show that came thru Boston. The staging was the big difference from the others. They entered and exited from each side of the stage. From my seat as I looked straight at the stage. I could look beyond and see the audience on the other side. The reason for that staging was the show was a funeral procession. joe

Winston, I saw Wintuk last November at MSG theatre. It was there first show on a stage. I thought it was geared more to children. And loses alot of magic on a stage. I would hold out for the next touring show. Or if you ever head to Vegas, those are your better choices. joe

I've seen every touring Cirque du Soleil show (except for Kooza) as they've come through NYC as well as traveled and seen the resident shows.

Saltimbanco is a colorful, amazing and exuberant show which truly exemplifies the core of what Cirque was before Guy Lalbiberte started seeing the money signs. Its probably their best production out there for all of the family as Wintuk is an embarrassment which they dumbed down for tourist audiences, something Cirque has never done, and called it "family entertainment.

The Saltimbanco arena tour commenced because Cirque was originally to put the show to rest after its stop in Brazil, but then used the arena tour as a means of reaching new markets they had never visited because of the ease of load-in/load-out. Of course, the intimacy is going to be effected by where you sit. The prices for the arena are cheaper than that of their tours in the the Grande Chapiteau (the big top), especially in NYC, if you make t so I'd suggest splurginheg to be closer if you make the trip to Newark.

The core Cirque shows that really represent what they're all about are: Saltimbanco, Alegria, Mystere (in Las Vegas), Quidam (their most profound/surrealistic) and "O" (also in Las Vegas). These productions were all directed by Franco Dragone who left the company before La Nouba (in Florida) and started DRAGONE and created the everchanging yet eversucking "Le Reve" for the Wynn Hotel & Casino.

Dralion is ****, Varekai is a very good show and a turning point for the company, Corteo is a great show but I'd say that a better example of Daniele Finzi-Pasca's directing work would be "Rain" by Cirque Eloize, KA had a big budget and is big technology but lacks heart, LOVE is a glorified Beatles dance concert and I've not had the chance to see La Nouba but the score is pretty amazing incorporating a belty black diva and a male countertenor.
