Patti LuPone better not read this article!

Wait - where's the Perez Hilton part??? Did I miss something? I wonder if she feels the same about the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular...

FOLLIES Reviews

Sep 15, 2011 — 1:51:51 PM

The thing I've always struggled to comprehend with Sally is that both in Bernadette's and Victoria Clark's portrayals Sally seems like this sweet middle-aged woman just longing for the past until Buddy starts telling Phyllis about how horrible she is at home and how combative she is with their children. It's a little jarring considering how waif-like and meager she seems during the opening scenes and her first act songs. I feel Bernadette's was a little more manic and desperate throughout whe...

Patti LuPone better not read this article!

While Patti has a point about Hair (I saw it in the Park originally and understood what was going on then again a few weeks ago on Broadway where it was utterly unintelligible - and I'm 25) she may have missed the mark on Cirque du Soleil. If her point is that only musicals should be in Radio City, that's one thing (and actually a rather invalid point considering she has been quoted as complaining that Radio City "swallowing up" musical performers thus why she doesn't like the TONYs to be hel...

Follies: Is "Too Many Mornings" Only in Sally's Head?

Sep 11, 2011 — 12:28:49 AM

**This could contain some spoilers regarding Follies, but if you've heard any Follies cast recording you'd know most of these plot points** The staging, specifically the interaction between the ghosts of their former selves and the present day Sally & Ben, make me feel like this is all a fantasy in Sally's head. Is it that or is Ben just manipulative to the point that he'd actually say "It was always real" in order to get into Sally's pants? The fact that he's on to Carlotta the very next sce...

Company on screen

Some of the inflections she used made me think that Martha Plimpton could most certainly play Carol Channing in a biopic. Anybody? Anybody?

Billy Elliot - 'Choreography'

Actually, for a show about dancing I found "Angry Dance" to be clunky, disjointed and ineffective.

Blickenstaff, Grupper, Oscar, Potter & Swenson Join THE ADDAMS FAMILY

@beautywickedlover That was probably because Ursula had a much larger and intricate costume as well as a longer make-up application and more time off stage. It might also be closer to the stage which, with all of the Ursula extremities, would make more logical sense as to avoid any of the smaller corridors backstage.

The Timelessness of 'I'm Still Here'

Jan 28, 2011 — 4:46:24 PM

"I've been through Gandhi, Windsor and Wally's affair And I'm here Amos and Andy, Mahjong and platinum hair And I'm here I've been through Abie's Irish Rose, Five Dionne Babies Major Bowes Had heebie-jeebies For Beebe's bathysphere I lived through Brenda Frazier And I'm here. I've gotten through Herbert and J. Edgar Hoover Gee, that was fun and a half When you've been through Herbert and J. Edgar Hoover Anything else is a laugh." I agree that this is definitely the verse in question. Although...

The Timelessness of 'I'm Still Here'

Sure, we have the internet and sure the intonation of the song is fairly evident without knowing all of the references (much like [title of show]'s ability to resonate with non-theater people) BUT I would venture to say that because the song is so reference heavy that even I (as a newer yet die-hard Follies fan) grew tired of being "out of the joke" so consistently throughout the song.

LuPone doing Company with the NY Phil

You obviously didn't see Patti in her sexy VERGE costumes.... Absolutely. Her cup almost runneth over a few times she was 'pushed up' so much...

Elaine Stritch in 'ALNM'

Jan 12, 2011 — 6:15:43 PM

X-Posting from elsewhere: I had seen the show with Bernie and Stritchay a few months back and they were both outstanding. I had read prior to going to the show about all of the issues Stritch was having on her first few nights then saw the show and thought people might have been taking her "Where was I"'s as her actually losing her place. I then went back on Friday night (1/7) and she was visibly struggling throughout the show. Liaisons came almost to a halt multiple times, she struggled with...

NOT THE ERIN DAVIE I SAW FOUR TIMES

Jan 10, 2011 — 2:13:31 PM

Maureen Moore as Charlotte is pure genius. Ever gesture has intention and every word has nuance. The way she shoots the side-eye to Anne the first time Anne chimes in during "Everyday A Little Death" is brilliant. She barely moves throughout the entire song but communicates volumes. I'm going to go re-watch her doing the "Drinks on the Terrace" scene again now... EDIT:

NIGHT MUSIC officially recoups.....

I do think the exaggeration on BP's behalf was an acting choice. She is playing an aging actress stuck in stock productions so I could see why she would choose to put on so much affect throughout the show. It also created levels and a stark contradiction to when she went into "Send In The Clowns" and really pulled at everyone's heart strings. The thing is, she did this well enough the first time I saw her in the show and when I returned on Friday it bordered on comical (in a bad way). Her dia...
