Sooooo casting ideas? I can't think of any big star that has the adequate falsetto to do any of this
Unles we're talking like...Justin Timberlake
I'm impressed he's taken on this gig, and I'm pretty optimistic. It's one thing for straight to want to see a musical when it's on stage, because they can pretend they're just at an oldies concert. But getting them to see it in a movie theatre is a whole other story. Clint will be able to bring in that audience, which is going to be necessary for this thing to make money.
I think that, despite the old stereotypes still holding water, we ARE seeing a slow move away from the idea that "musical theatre is inherently gay." It's showing up in popular culture as a cultural force more and more frequently without the nudge-nudge gay irony. Consider things like "Les Miserables," an entirely unironic, somewhat macho musical, the success of "The Book Of Mormon" as a cultural buzz icon in 2011-2012, and the increased focus on musical numbers and theatricality in popular comedies like Family Guy and South Park.

Remember when Clint was announced to direct Jersey Boys...
I thought I remember saying...
"Does anyone think this will be a good idea?"
