Posted: 10/28/07 at 9:01pmWhy does it sound like they've made a proffesional recording? Or at least an excelent sound board. I'm pissed. I want one.

Posted: 10/29/07 at 12:15pmMatt Bogart is the only reason I'll be seeing this. I have no interest in the musical itself or anyone else invovled. I just like his voice. I hope he's in when I see it, or I'll be PISSED.

Ouch. Lou Diamond Phillips makes Michael York sound good!
I'm so glad I saw this with Rachel York and James Barbour. Their voices were heaven, and her acting was delicious.

I saw Rachel go on as Muriel Eubanks in Dirty Rotten when Joanna Gleason was out (love Joanna Gleason). She was great and having that character be sexy made Andre's reactions even funnier since he seemed to be that much more flustered.
Matt Bogart sounds great, but Lou... where was that stunt casting thread??

Same one.
No legs.
And on the day of Robert Goulet's death, it is a sad commentary on the dearth of talent.

Just got back from seeing Camelot at the Wharton Center in East Lansing and I really enjoyed it. Lou Diamond Phillips was iffy on the singing stuff but his acting was really great. Matt Bogart completely and totally blew me away. Rachel de Benedet as Guinevere had a very beautiful voice. I hadn't ever seen it and I didn't really know many songs from it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
They also had a small moment of silence at the beginning for Robert Goulet and I thought that was cool and very classy.

Seeing this tonight.
I cringed when they announced it as part of the season, but this part of the state loves it's "celebrity" casting, so I'm hoping for the best!
My hope is that the actors have settled in and found their characters by now.
**FINGERS CROSSED**
I have always hated this show, but it's been years since I was in it in college. I hope this production can chancge my mind and that it will not be an evening in sucky theater hell!

O H C R A P!
I just listened to the clips posted above.
I HATE that talk-singing every Arthur feels compelled to do.
It only works for the likes of Richard Harris, Peter O'Toole, Rex Harrison, and a few others. I've yet to hear anyon eles do it convincingly. Lou sounds bad in the clips, and now I believe the orchestra is only 4 pieces! YIKES!
But...There is hope! Rachel and Matt sounded better than expected!
Thanks for the link!

I saw the show last night at Shea's in Buffalo. Bogart completely stole the show from LDP. He was wonderful, as was Rachel de Benedect's acting. Very nice comedic timing. Her singing however left alot to be desired. Made her seem much older than the character she is portraying.
I did not like the tacky and unintentionally funny "Lusty Month of May." When I was in this show, we danced happily around the May pole. Last night was a "sexed up" version. I also did not like the placement of "If Ever I Would Leave You" immediatley following "I Loved You Once in Silence." Two ballads in a row really drags the show down.

Thanks ALBIN!
Guess I'll just go into it tonight with an open mind, as always, and see what happens!

I loved the new placement of "If Ever I Would Leave You". Initially this tour cut "I Loved You Once in Silence" so it wasn't such a daunting scene but, they put it back after the script versions that took place during the rehearsal time for the three new leads and it's for the better. That whole scene now has purpose and everything that happens after the fact is now justified because we get see them really betray Arthur instead of just talking about it like in previous productions.
I also love how Guenevere and Lance have a bit of a duet, (FINALLY!), with the last few lines of "If Ever I Would Leave You". For fifty years they were one of few couples in musical theatre history without a duet. Now they have a little something and that was a nice touch.
The only thing they need to do now is put "Before I Gaze at You Again" back in its original location as it was at the start of this tour which was after Lance's "The Reason to Live" poem. Now she sings it in act one and reprises it at the top of act two which then ruins the final reprise at the end as she's saying goodbye to Arthur. It would have been better to just keep the initial song at the top of the act and then reprise it at the end just as they did in the earlier version of the script.
I have to say though, I was very pleased with Michael Learner's revisions. I didn't mind the "Sexy" Month of May, even though the orchestrations were a little too reminiscent of Craig Barna's orchestrations for his tribal "Ugg-A-Wug" in the Cathy Rigby Peter Pan. However, I did like how they cut "Fie on Goodness" but still kept the "Scotland" portion of the song to have one of the knights sing as his poem at the very top of the second act. That was brilliant.
