My school's drama club made a trip to see ANNIE at MSG and I was less than thrilled due to the fact I had been in ANNIE and it wasn't my favorite show. Also, was weary of Kathie Lee in ANYTHING. Pleasantly surprised. I fell in love with the show again from the moment the orchestra began the oveture. Little Marissa O' Donnell was fantastic. She has a defient stage presence and voice, but the oprhans scenes were stolen by 6 year old Anastasia Korbal who played an adorable Molly. They made many references to Jersey one in which made us laugh when Annie says she'll have fun in New Jersey, my group and I laughed. Kathie Lee was pretty fantastic, she has a nice voice and did her best drunken den mother, it was fantastic. Her "Little Girls" was screechy, full of anger and awesome.
I liked that they included songs like "We'd Like To Thank You Herbert Hoover", "A New Deal for Christmas" etc that were not included in the licensed versions that I and many people had been a part of. I always enjoyed "Herbert Hoover" on the cast recording, it was always my favorite. Also, Harry Turpin in "Tomorrow" {Reprise} as Ickles was hysterical. He was also hysterical as the Sound Effects Man. Monica L. Patton was fantastic as Star to Be, her note she held was amazing. It gave me chills. Elizabeth Broadhurst was a perfect Grace: sophsicated, with a little bit of crazy. Conrad John Schuck was a heartwarming Daddy Warbucks and left me smiling.
The set for NYC was amazing. I loved it. The show exceeded my expectations. I throughly enjoyed it: The little kids in the theater with us loved it. Take you're kids to see it, it's a peferct holiday show.
On our way around Rockefeller Center after the show, we saw 30 ROCK, the NBC comedy with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin filming these scenes and they had been through most of the day. I adore Tina Fey and have loved her since her stint on SNL and her movie Mean Girls. On our way back to Rockefeller Center, they were finishing filming and on our way past, I smiled at Tina to atleast get a smile, then I noticed she was done her converstation with someone and went in and asked for a picture. She graciously took a picture with me, she was so sweet. I told her how much I loved SNL and MEAN GIRLS, and she told me over and over: "Thank you." It was great: the camera man took our picture. She was laughing because he couldn't figure out my camera. "A professional camera man and he can't figure out a digital camera." she said, it was great.
Also bought some stuff: A RENT t-shirt, a photo from a vendor of HIGH FIDELITY's poster and ALL SHOOK UP's poster. It was amazing. Such an amazing day in NYC.
