I've stumbled across some Broadway coinky dinks, and was wondering if anyone had any to share.
RENT: "Mark it's the Wicked Witch of the West, Your mother"
Mark's ex-girlfriend played the Wicked Witch of the West nine years later.
CHICAGO: Bebe Newirth played two Chita parts in the Revivals of Sweet Charity and Chicago. She also reprised a role originated by Gwen Verdon in Damn Yankees, and ANN Reinking played Charity, a role in which Verdon originated, which Ann also revived Verdon's original Roxie.
To add to that...
RENT: "Why Dorothy and Toto went over the rainbow...to blow off Auntie Em" - yet another Wizard of Oz reference.
My favorite one has to be the fact that Madonna was cast as Evita Peron, when there was a lyric in EVITA that said "She's a new world Madonna with a golden touch," a phrase that nicely summed up Madonna's career at that point in time. (They changed the lyric for the film, as there was no way they could let it stand without people gasping in inappropriate recognition.) Updated On: 1/23/05 at 03:45 AM
