College Audition Help?#1

I know, I know...I should post this on the Student Board, but no one really ever posts there. I need some help finding monologues and songs for my college auditions. They aren't for a few more months, but I usually procrastinate and need to be prepared.

I have a few things in mind, but need to find a few more. I'm better in quirky and physical comedy and with emotional drama and I'm a bari-bass. So, given all that, what plays/musicals should I be looking at?

I could REALLY use your help! :) Thanks in advance!

(If you would like to PM ideas to me, that'd be great too!)

How are you going to be able to handle a Musical Theater program where you will have to find new songs/monologues/scenes etc. to work on every other week??? If you can't do this on your own now - you are not prepared to be a Musical Theater major!

Woahhh...All I asked for was a little help. I'm allowed to ask for help. I don't appreciate being attacked like that. The post said "I have a few things in mind, but need to find a few more". All I was asking for were ideas. I'm fully capable of finding songs and monolgues but usually like the help some posters provide on here. Clearly, not you. Thanks for the snark though...always entertaining.

Oh. And I'm FULLY prepared to be a Musical Theatre major.

The problem is that we don't know anything about you. The two comments you gave us don't help. This is NOT something you can get advice on so simply.

I help my students find material all the time: but I know them and their abilities freakishly well.

We don't even know if you're male or female.

And out of curiousity...how is it that you are auditioning for colleges now? Wouldn't that have occurred many months ago? Unless you're going for late acceptance or something...?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I am very much so a MALE. And I'm an incoming senior in high school and will be auditioning this coming winter/spring.

I understand that you don't know me or anything about me, but all I'm asking for is suggestions.

In fairness: the op did say his auditions were still a few months off...so I'm guessing he is a HS senior.

Additionally: if the op is a 'bari-bass', I think it's fair to also assume a male.

But point is well taken.

What's your physical type?
What's your race (aka are you something other than white)?
Do you look your age, older, or younger?
Have you been taking voice lessons? For how long?
Are you a particularly strong dancer?
What's the highest note you can comfortably hit?
What's the strongest part of your vocal range?
Is your voice legit or more contemporary (pop/rock)? Can you do both? Which one do you feel you do better?

What schools are you auditioning for?? There are some schools that have certain criteria as to which songs to avoid and such. That was a ballsy move asking for advice on here, but it can be a confusing process and ask for help whenever you need it because someone will give it to you.
