The previously-announced production schedule for the upcoming Broadway revival of Ntozake Shange's acclaimed play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf is being "temporarily delayed," producers Whoopi Goldberg and DreamTeam Entertainment Group announced jointly July 30.

The postponement is the result of the recent loss of one of the production's key backers.

Previews were initially slated to begin on Aug. 19 at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre, in preparation for an official opening Sept. 8.

Directed by Shirley Jo Finney and choreographed by Hinton Battle, the music, movement and poetry-flecked For Colored Girls... will mark the Broadway stage debut of two-time Grammy Award winner India.Arie. The script has been revised by Shange, and will bring the tales into the 21st century.

Tickets for the production have not yet been placed on sale. A revised production schedule will be released as soon as it is available.

Money is tight these days and when backers get scared, they exit.

For Colored Girls is about money. If you are severely undercapitalized you can't "go". Well you can, but you won't get out of the rehearsal hall.

There is nowhere to put Brigadoon. There is no right-sized theatre available. It has to be 1400+ seats to have any money making potential. All those size houses are spoken for.
