How has the student rush been for come fly away?
Where have the seats been located?
Has it been hard since the show announced closing?

1. The show announced closing after the matinee yesterday so that makes a grand total of 1 performance after they posted their closing notice.

2. I got a 4th row dead center seat for the matinee yesterday at about 12:15, I can't imagine it would be much more difficult for any other performance during the week, there were empty seats next to me.

People should go see this show. Get the student rush, it's worth $30. I know a dance show with music by Sinatra might not be everyone's cup of tea (it ain't no Rock of Ages or Wicked) but I'm baffled why more people haven't been excited by this show. I think that if this had been an a 1000 seat theatre it would be doing great but 1600+ for a dance show? I suspect they never thought it would run past Christmas anyway since there seem to be several large shows that need theatre (Priscilla, Sister Act, Catch Me....etc.). It's a shame really. Not really sure why they didn't try discounting more and/or different performance schedule. Isn't that the usual path before announcing a closing?

Gee, is "it ain't no Rock of Ages or Wicked" suppose to be a selling point?

What does there being large shows coming in have anything to do with CFA lack of audience?

Discounting MORE doesn't really help, people seldom think: there's a show that's 15 dollars less, I'll go see that. Folks either know about discounts or don't. And no, schedule changing is not a usual path to "save" a show.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

My ROA/Wicked comment was not a "dig" at either of those shows. They are both fine shows. It was more a comment on their broad appeal and more mainstream audience. So it was the opposite of a selling point. It was an acknowledgement that CFA wouldn't appeal to as wide an audience. Geez...people are so quick to defend Wicked, even when it's getting a compliment. Come fly away rush?

My point about large shows coming in was in regards to the question of if the producers/Nederlanders perhaps only anticipated it running for 8-9 months so that the theatre would be available for shows that are actually better suited for that size theatre. Rather than say, waiting for ROA or ITH to close to put CFA in one of their smaller theatres. I suppose there wasn't much chance of it recouping in that short a time though. Perhaps a calculated gamble? With nothing else to put in after White Christmas they put CFA in. If it's a hit, great, if it isn't then run it for 8-9 months and make way for something bigger. They probably didn't expect for it to only last until Sept though. I wonder how CFA would have done in the Nederlander at 1200 seats. 55% of the Marquis is around 72% of the Nederlander and $500,000.00/wk is really not that bad a gross. Likely above their nut, even in the Marquis.

I'm not saying that either of those things would have saved the show, I'm just saying that I'm surprised that those tactics weren't tried. Often they are when a show is having trouble. Someone somewhere said that there was a plan to do 5 show weekends. As grueling as that would have been for the chorus and the band, I think that being one of the few options on a Sunday evening in the summer or perhaps doing a Monday show, would have perhaps encouraged people to give it a try.

Anyway, it's done. I suspect we'll see MDQ post soon too.

Agreed. This probably would have been a more successful show if it was not playing such a large house. I do not know what the producers were thinking by putting this show in such a large house.

I wasn't surprised that it was closing, either. I had an interest in seeing it but it wasn't at the top of my list due to the other shows I wanted to see.
I'm going to the city next Saturday, do you think the matinee will be hard to student rush because it's a Saturday?
