Community Theatre tips!

OK I have never been in a community theatre production nor auditioned for one, but in about a month my local theatre is hold auditions for Thoroughly Modern Millie. I love the music and am dying to try out, and I was wondering if you have any tips? I am not really a good singer but I am now taking voice lessons. But by the time of the audition I will only have had 3 lessons! : / Should I audition? Or if I was bad would it give me a bad rep in the community theatre community?? Thanks!! much love <3333

re: Community Theatre tips!

Well, it IS a community theatre production, so no one is expecting Broadway caliber performers. The point is to have fun, so as long as that's what you're doing, you should be fine. I've done many a community theatre production that had several so-so singers, but don't sell yourself short. You just might discover a hidden talent! When you audition, just give it your best, and that's all you can do. Don't worry about one audition ruining your rep. Even if you don't make it, there will be other shows, and most likely new people heading them up, and once again, it IS community theatre. They just like to see eager members of the community wanting to get involved. If nothing else, I'm sure you can get involved in some way. Break a leg!

re: Community Theatre tips!

I couldn't agree more. I work as a paid student actor for a local regional theatre, and they have several ppl that come in that have no acting or singing experience what so ever. Most of the time they won't get lead roles but any role is a good role. Like Junior said "it IS a community theatre production". I would'nt worry about it. Audition and have fun with it. If you make it then congrats but if not then there's always the next show.

Sing a song from the show you're auditioning for. Dress appropriately. Don't try to copy anything you may have heard on the CD. Make it original.

I hope you know how to tap dance. They will care more about that with Millie.

Mattbrain- you're never supposed to sing a song from the show you're auditioning for unless they ask for it.
