YAY! I googled AMEX Broadway, and was able to get 5th row, center orchestra on November 25th Saturday. I'm very excited, and avidly hoping I enjoy it more than its last Broadway revival (WHICH I LIKED BUT WASN'T BOWLED OVER).

Looks like I'll be seeing it with you on November 18, pab. Bought two 4th row center orchestra seat tickets online early this morning! I'm really looking forward to it! It's one of my favorite Sondheim scores. Any "buzz" on this production yet? Hope they do a good job. Admittedly, other than Raul Esparza, I'm not all that familiar with the cast or creative team.

All I can say is that they were wonderful in Cinci, and the reviews have been great!

Anyone seen or know what the logo is? What the windowcards will look like?

I've seen the dark blue background with the white lettering. I was hoping for something a LOT cooler than that though. Anyone know?

I'll see you there, Katurian (CONGRATULATIONS)!

Barbara Walsh was in Falsettos on Broadway, and left that for Blood Brothers. I also saw her as the mother in BIG.

I'm not sure if the window card will be that logo, or will use stuff from an actual photoshoot of the cast. I'd definitely prefer the latter.

I like the vertical versionof the logo, with the cubes stacked up, much better than the horizontal version, too. The cubes are the main set pieces, so I understand why they're in the logo, but they look all smushed in the horizontal version. At least in the vertical one, they're stacked up and look cool.

I guess I'm a little late to the party, but I didn't know that the cast would be playing all the instruments, a la the Sweeney Todd revival. I'm not a big fan of this concept. I hope it isn't distracting or takes away from the storyline. Thoughts? For those who saw the production in Cincinatti... what did you think. And by the way, what instrument does Raul Esparza play?

Raul plays piano only at the end of the show for Being Alive. It's quite brilliant...

Raúl plays piano and cymbals in the show.

I saw it in Cincinnati; it's one of the best things I've ever seen. I think my only quibbles were with casting, but I suppose with more time, all of the actors will get even better.

I didn't find the concept distracting at all -- I found it to work with the story in a different way than it does with Sweeney, because it intertwines itself a little bit better, and is, IMO, more understated.

Beside the staging, was the storyline updated in any way? I guess what I'm asking is, did the show seem dated at all? A co-worker of mine, who loved the original production, thought it might appear dated. I told her I didn't see how or why it would. Seems to me like the central theme is pretty universal and would stand the test of time.

Not one bit dated, IMO. There's no mention of a year in the show at all, but I believe Doyle did say he put this production in 2006. Even still, though, more than "updated," it feels very timeless. Some people are concerned about the pot smoking scene seeming dated, but it's not a big deal.
