can anyone pretty much sum up for me Amy's character in the show? what is she like and why does she not want to get married all of a sudden? thanks!

My university just did this show. Um...I'm not really sure. I think it's just because she's crazy and she gets cold feet which, being crazy, she blows entirely out of proportion. "Company" is a concept musical though, so it's not as important as to why Amy doesn't want to get married, as there's really not much of a linear plot. What's important is how her and Paul's relationship affects Bobby.

I think most of the characters in Company, particularly Amy and Joanne, are "worst-case" scenarios. They represent what Robert could become if he gets married (or in Joanne's case, doesn't - I for one don't think Joanna ever really is married, not inside.)

Sorry, iknow this is a little strange, but it's all I got. Anybody agree/disagree/help to elaborate?

that helps. it's been soooo long since i've seen this show so that helps me remember. the reason why i'm asking this is because i'm doing the monologue she says when talking to robert. does she not want to get married because she feels that she think she loves Paul for the wrong reasons? like she thinks she only decided to have a realtionship with Paul was because he was Jewish and was tired of the Catholic ways and dated him because she wanted to rebel? of course i think she is telling Robert this because she is having cold feet and is starting to think of crazy reasons why she fell in love with him and is not sure if she is making a good decision or not? am i right about her?

I think that's quite a good assessment of the monologue, Bwaybaby. The way I see it, she's just got cold feet and is getting hysterically neurotic about their relationship. She's being irrational and looking for reasons to put off the wedding (she only likes Paul because he's Jewish, he's too sweet for her, etc.), though deep down she really does love him.
