but seriously the name thing is risky. it's all well and good to go with something exotic and original, but what happens when your "Elvis" or "Scarlett" or "Barbarella" winds up being painfully shy and introverted?

I'd say it's better to go simple, aim low then build. Then if the kid winds up being a psycho, they can choose to upgrade it from "Carl" to "Gigantor, Eater of Souls" or whatever.
