The RENT tour was also non-equity (which many take to mean not professional) which might be why kaykohl did not mention it.
I saw Constantine in "Jacques Brel..." and I thought he was good (not as good as Jim Stanek or Drew Sarich but good). I could not stand him during his faux-rocker phase on AI, but was really amazed on the Broadway night.

"There have been 192 contestants who have made the voting rounds on American Idol only 10 have been on Broadway 18 if you add in the off-Broadway and touring shows."
That's still a large percentage if you ask me. A lot of the 192 have gone nowhere, so if you count the ones actually making a name for themselves, the percentage doing musical theater gets even higher. The AI judges should give musical theater proper credit and quit dissing it so much.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 4:27pmEww. I saw him in TWS and it was all whining (seriously, he was by far one of the most annoying things I've ever witnessed) and mugging at the audience.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 4:33pmIf you only look at the American Idol contestants who have made it to the Top 12 (which was only a Top 10 for the first season), and don't include the most recent season's contestants because they're still on the Idol tour, there are 70 such contestants, and 14 of them are on the list previously posted. That's a lot.

I can't look at him and not think "fake douchebag poseur".
So, yeah. He's perfect for this GREASE revival and its fans.

In Grease, Kenickie is played by. . . Matthew Saldivar. I hope he has stocked up on his videogames at home!
Ha! Poor Matthew.

I saw where he just finished a stint as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar in regional theatre in Jersey, and all the other cast members were raving about how helpful, inspiring, and just plain great it was to have him there.
And Constantine was just the "special guest star" at Radio Broadway's 1958 show, and got good reviews there too.
Whoever said he's a theatre guy come home has it right, IMO.
Wish I could have seen Judas, I'm thinking he probably did well with it.
I would look forward to seeing him as Kenickie. I hope the rumor is true.

I think the big question is how many will be back. Stunt casting is a one thing, you need to have talent to continue working on BW.
And I did see JCS- he was outstanding.

He's a hard working guy. Minus the American Idol stuff, he's been working in theater for years in various productions. I would not call him a stunt cast at all, but an actor assuming a role. His fellow cast members always speak highly of him, too.
I hope I get the chance to see him in Grease.

He is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory with a degree in acting, who happened to audition for American Idol. He stared in the RENT tour as Roger before Idol.
Hardly the same as the other Idols who have gotten roles on BW.

It was a community theater, not regional.
