What the definition out there for what is and isn't contemporary?
My friend seems to think The Light In the Piazza is contemporary musical theater but I wasn't sure. Would a score like Little Women's be considered contemporary?
In musical terms, no.
Contemporary would be... LEGALLY BLONDE, SHREK, etc. Pop or Rock or Hip Hope music basically. anything that doesn't fit the older standard Showtune genre.
In technical terms? Yes, it is, because unless it is a revival it IS new music. That makes it "contemporary" (in relation to the definition in the Dictionary)
