In the spirit of Easter, I went thumbing through my bookshelf and found my copy of "Corpus Christi" and gave it another read-through and reminded myself of how much I enjoyed it.
I've always wondered why this never got a full-scale Broadway production (I envision it at the MTC-Friedman)? The subject matter doesn't necessarily seem as subversive as it was when it was published in 1998 as far as the general theme of homosexuality is concerned.
Sound off. I want to know what you guys think.

I like the play. It's not perfect, and it tends to be a bit heavy-handed at times, but I can understand the paranoid, self-righteous fear that fed the protesters in 1998. After all, you're mucking around with two supposedly irreconcilable aspects of Amuhrikun life.
But a Broadway production? No, I dont think so. The economics of Broadway these days seems to mandate a fully commercial production unless you want a real struggle in getting butts in seats. The controversy factor would still be there, but I dont think it could feed the economics of a run long enough to pay back the investment.

To me it was always more of an idea for a play than an actual play and some of it just seem to be McNally trying to provoke the religious right of the time and not really coming up with a full argument for his side.
