Cort Theatre - getting some work done

For those that are interested in such things, I passed by the Cort today, and it appears that it's getting a face lift. Scaffolding is set up all over the theatre's facade, which was looking pretty disheveled of late. A new marquee that is visible from Seventh Avenue would help that theatre immeasurably. The interior is lovely, so it really doesn't need much to be a viable house again.

The Shuberts also have been working on the Lyceum, and did some touch-up work on the Longacre prior to Virginia Woolf last spring. That's all wonderful, of course, but now I am praying that they give the Belasco the full restoration it so desperately needs prior to Awake and Sing in the spring.

To think this was the work of theater architect Thomas Lamb who designed some of the most lush & ornate pitcure palaces ever is amazing.

The Cort actually has a very attractive interior. Unlike some other Broadway theatres that had much of their detailing ransacked and obliterated (the Belasco, the Ambassador), the Cort still looks somewhat like this.
