Has anyone had this problem where you are in this really quiet emotional part (for example, right after Elphaba dies in Wicked) and someone tries to clear the throat REALLY LOUDLY and it just messes up the whole emotional scene? It's SOOO FRIGGIN ANNOYING. Share your experiences.

Uh...
*SPOILER ALERT*
...Elphaba doesn't die.
*END SPOILER ALERT*
Okey dokey...well, I don't know. I think it's happened once, but I forget where.
i think there's been threads on this before. and about candy wrappers.
I wasn't clearing my throat I was trying to restrain my laughter ... sorry...
I have post nasal drip so unfortunately I am always clearing my throat.
Sorry
uhm nothing that comes to mind although i CANNOT stand popcorn in a movie theatre...i know its like a matching pair but...- AHHH THE MUNCHING!! CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH.... its drives me CRAZY!
Popcorn doesn't bother me anymore. I don't know where you live but they play movies so LOUD in most urban areas now, someone could bring in a sizzling plate of fajitas, and it wouldn't matter.
My least favorite recent experience during live theatre was having someone answer their cell phone and start talking... In a semi-loud voice, even! If I were up there on that stage I would have paused until they were finished.

best12bars: thats UNBELIEVABLE! Some people are so rude!
At the theatre where I did shows, during A Tale of The Allergists wife, someones phone rang one, they ignored it, then ti rang again, and they answered and started a whole convo. One of the actresses said
"I never break character, but I can't think so please get out of theatre Sorry ladies and gentleman, now to ther show!" She got a standing ovation.
I absolutely hate it when people talk during a performance (movie or theater). The worst situations I have experienced are when someone doesn't hear a line or get the punchline and the person next to them has to repeat it or explain what's going on. I almost clocked a couple of women sitting behind me who couldn't keep their traps shut during La Cage Aux Folles.
I also hate people who cannot laugh normally.. Some guy lady during the 40 Year Old Virgin was literally cackling.
I find it often helps to wear ear plugs because they close off background chatter and allow you to hear the performers.
Talking is my pet peeve. I had a wonderful front/center seat for Phantom back in April. A woman with two pre-teen children sat behind me. And the three of them chatted for much of the show...the kids had too many questions and the mother was more than happy to give them long detailed answers...she prattled on for every second of "Music of the Night."
I'm not as harsh about throat clearing or coughing...provided it's a moment when it really is unavoidable.
